She had a puppy earlier today at around 12 noon and since then she hasn't had any more. I checked her and she seems to be doing pretty good. She already ate and drank water but no more babies. Do you think thats all she's gonna have? Anybody else that has had this situation before?

I worked at a veterinary clinic for 7 years and this is very normal. Small dogs like that will sometimes only have one. Usually the max will be 3-4, but if they have that many 1 or 2 will not make it. She sounds like she is doing well and I would say she is probably done. You would know if she was having trouble passing another puppy or if there was one still in there. She would not want to get around and eat and drink. Just keep an eye on her and make sure her and the puppy are comfortable. I hope this helps.

Well....*rubbing my chin and thinking back*....I'd have to say that in my 27 years' experience, I have yet to see a chihuahua MALE have one puppy. ;-)

Sorry...LOL. I couldn't resist. Hehehe.

Okay, in all seriousness now...yes...that's quite common in chihuahuas. Dogs can wait several hours in between puppies, AS LONG AS they're not constantly pushing (which is what indicates a problem).....but if she ate well, that's a good sign that she's "done." :-)

Your veterinarian will be able to tell your for sure that there are no more puppies up in there tomorrow when you take her and the puppy in for the routine postpartum checkup. She'll likely get an injection to help make sure her uterus finishes contracting and expells all of the afterbirth/fluid. It's not 'absolutely' necessary, but it's a really good idea (helps prevent uterine infections, which can be life-threatening, and expensive to treat.)

Make sure you take a notepad and pen, because they're going to give you some VERY important information on how to feed her, signs for some common postpartum problems to watch for, etc. Don't hesitate to ask them questions if you don't understand something....as this is all very important.

Btw....CONGRATS on your new arrival!!!! (And don't forget to ask about getting her spayed after she weans the pup, before she comes into heat again. You got REALLY lucky. Many tiny breeds who only have one puppy end up on my surgery table for an emergency C-section....because having just one puppy increases the odds that it will grow too large to be delivered vaginally, as yours was.)

Yes it is quite normal for her to have only 1 pup. Smaller dogs tend to have smaller litters, a great dane on the other hand may have 15 pups. But generally, you're lucky if you get a few out of a chihuahua. You may still want to take her to your vet. Have him/her check your pup to make sure there aren't any more left. It will be hard for you to tell yourself. Also to get the puppy checked out to make sure that the heart and lungs sound good.

i raise chihuahuas, they can have anywhere from 1-5 puppys depending on her size. normally they dont just have one. there could be one stuck in the canal, and you might have to go to the vet to get a shot to help speed up her contractions and have them feel to see if there are any more puppys and what position they are in. the sooner the better. if you dont you may end up paying for a c-section or worse loose your dog and her pups...good luck!

It's all simply a matter of personal preference. I actually have short hair and guys like it. And i prefer a person with short hair over a person with long hair because long tresses tends to make guys look as well girly.

is it a full blooded miniature chihuahua? if so ,,yes they can only have one pup at a time and hopefully the pup's dad is the same kind of dog. if it is half chi and half other dog..then there's a chance her body can handle 2 pups,,

Yes it is. They are very small and not able to hold as many babies in their body!
