Hi, Rayna! You can be any age to adopt a kitten, if your parents are helping you. And that is important, because it is a big responsibility to take care of another living creature. So, talk to your parents about it.

It's a great experience to raise a kitten! Just remember, that "responsibility" means that it won't always be fun.

For example, someone will have to take care of the litter box, and scoop out the kitty poop. If it is your cat, you will have to do this. (Come on, don't let mom and dad do it for you... you will be much more proud of having a cat if you do most of the hard work.) And, it has to be done every day. (I mean, you go to the bathroom every day, and a kitty will, too.) And, even if you get tired of doing it, it doesn't matter. It must be done.

But, if you think of it as a game, to see how well you can take care of Kitty, it won't be so tough, and you can see yourself become a very responsible person. Good luck!

Many shelters and rescues require the adopter to be at least 18 years of age and may require everyone in the household to come in and meet the animal to make sure your family is ok with it. This helps prevent kids from adopting an animal without their parent’s permission and then being forced to get rid of the animal if they are angry about it.

Most places prefer you to be a legal adult (18).
Like everyone else said, most adoptions require you to pay
a neuter or spay fee and any previous vaccination fees.
Unless your parents are present to sign the papers, they are not going to release the animal to you. Anybody could sign those papers. They want to make sure these animals are going to a stable and permanate home, not a child who might be hinding a new pet from Mom and Dad.

You have to be a legal adult in your state: usually around 18 years old. Have your parents take care of the adoption, and please adopt from your local shelter.

Can't blame you for wanting a kitten, but it doesn't have to be expensive. Check out your local shelters on www.petfinder.com.

Adopting a dog or cat in my area is only $23.00.

You need to be old enough to pay for all of it's food and shots. Figure about $300.00 a year.

It costs a lot from animal shelters.
Don't you know anyone whose cat had babies? They are free, since people want to get rid of them.
