I've been researching on Ferrets for over 4 weeks now, and am itching to get one REALLY soon. But ive just read something thats crossed my mind. Ferrets are prone to catching things like the human flu, and etc correct? That concerns me, because my daughter is an elementary student, and brings home cold after cold. (so it seems that way) I wouldn't want to risk a ferrets health, because of this. Should I just wait to purchase a ferret until my daughters immune system has adjusted better? Anyone ever get a ferret from Carolina Ferrets? I was going to settle with a store bought or shelter ferret, but I've really come to find that the Carolina Ferret kits are excellent. Also, im a little concerned about litter trainning, because I do have 4 cats and they of course have their odors! Is this going to clash with litter training my ferret(s) ?

We installed an "invisible fence" and it worked perfectly...for about 2 months. Now he's figured out that if he runs really fast through it, the shock is minimal and worth the freedom. My neighbors are becoming fed up and we cannot afford a traditional fence around our entire property. How can we "retrain" him to respect the boundary???
(Yes, he's had puppy training. Does great with commands unless he is out of the yard...then he just bolts and won't respect commands.)

My cat will always sit next to me, no matter what room I go in, he follows, and just wants to be near me. He eats dry food, so he's not waiting for me to feed him. There are 3 other cats in the house, and they all get along, so he's not lonely...I know he's comfortable, he lies on his back for most of the day :) There are also two other people in the house, it's not as though he is craving the attention. I'm just curious, why only me? He doesn't want to sit with his siblings, or the other people in the house. If I go to the kitchen to grab something, he stays with me till I leave, then follows me back into the other room. The only thing he doesn't do is sleep with me, thought he "tucks" me in everynight. He'll come in and sit with me while I fall asleep. It's very cute, but I just can't understand the "obsession" with me :)

I want to get a cat, but I don't want one that gets big. There are toy dogs that stay very small their whole life and was wondering if anyone knows of any cats that do the same.

My dog is pretty hard to take care of and all he does is eat and sleep. Which pet would really be the hardest to take care of?

My dog is a 6 month old Mini Dachshund and he is our pride and joy. He LOVES kids and all other people and is a very sweet and loving dog. He loves other dogs and is very submissive and does not show any sign of aggression. We go to great lengths to see that he is properly socialized with humans and dogs and well trained. He will lick you to death if you let him. The problem is we have never really had him around babies. I had some girlfriends come over tonight and my friend has a 5 month old baby. Buddy was very curious and wanted to smell the baby all over, lick his head and ears, and when we would not let him up on the couch with the baby he would bark. He was so hyper around the baby we put him in his crate. He wasn't trying to hurt him but he was very excited and curious. He is the baby's size and we were nervous he would accidentally scratch the baby or nip his toes where the socks are. Buddy loves socks.

Suggestions for training our dog to deal with babies gently?

This week my girlfriend and I broke up, my old sick dog had to be put down and me and my remaining dog are moving out of state. My dog is so depressed. I just don't know what to do for her. The dog that had to be put down had been with her for all five years of her life. My girlfriend had been with us for two years. She has lost everything but me. Her home, her best friend and her other mom are all gone.

This may seem like a dumb question, but I am curious...I have a cat who has his front two paws declawed. He was born in my house, and I gave a couple out of the litter away. Anyways, he ended up not be happy at his new home, so he came back to me. I brought him to get his nails clipped a couple of months later, and the guy said there was nothing there...I told him this was impossible, and he said he couldn't find anything. I was rather puzzled, so I emailed the owner who had given him back. He replied very nonchalantly, "oh, yeah, we had him declawed, I didn't think it was a big deal." Well, I did, and VERY irresponsible not to tell me. What if I had let him out? He knew we had his siblings here, what if they fought? So, I was really devastated, I felt as though his life would not be as fulfilling. He has a brother and a sister who live with him now. They wrestle a lot, I notice he's a biter, with them, and me. That doesn't bother me.

I have a 9 month old mutt. She is only two breeds for sure, according to her blood type. We cannot find out what other breed she is. She is deffanatly half German Shepherd. Take your best guess on the other half. (Some of the pics were for fun)
