I want to get a cat, but I don't want one that gets big. There are toy dogs that stay very small their whole life and was wondering if anyone knows of any cats that do the same.

Not really, no; cats, compared to dogs, breed more true to genotype.

Your best bet might be an Oriental Shorthair or a Siamese, as they tend to be thinner than most other cats.

There aren't any "miniature" breeds, but there are cats that are traditionally larger (like a Maine Coon, for example).

Take a look at the size of the parent cats if you can, and use that for a guess at how large the kitten might get.

siamese cats don't get very big, but they do need a lot of attention, they are very attached to their family.
Stop thinking about size, think about what mentality you want, then choose the breed
Also you need to find out whether you want /can take care of a longhaired breed, that need frequent grooming or if a short hair is a better choice for you

According to my vet, male cats are statistically more likely to be overweight than females. If you get a female cat, you'll have a better chance of it not getting very big.

Well, there are those Munchkin cats.. They look like Doxies!! Very short legs, so they are shorter than other cats.
I think it is cruel to breed a cat with legs like that, but people buy them!
