I broke down my aquarium after 10 years and cleaned it just using hot water. I have new rocks. I just used STRESS COAT to treat the water which is all i have ever used. i didnt clean the filter it wasnt too bad and i have it running. How many days do I wait till I put fish in the tank? Anything else I need to add to the water?

HI - I have just recently bought a 10 yr old mare, she was brilliant when I rode her, very calm, honest and gentle. Now she is sensitive to touch, 'winking' and peeing a lot, and her whole manners have changed - I'm guessing she is in season, I do not have any experience with mares - my other horses are geldings, so I don't know what to do to help her, also how often do they come into season and how long does it last?

I have a 4 1/2 month old staff, who is house trained (thanks to a crate!!), but he religiously piddles when he is greeted by someone other than a family member! He is very "spunky" and "gobby" and boisterous, but in a playful way. We have asked visitors to ignore him, which they do, and even after 1/2 an hour, my poor neighbour can still end up with wet feet!! NOT PLEASANT!! I do not want to isolate him as this does not rectify the problem, just postpones it. I need a strategy that has an immediate effect and leaves visitors dry!

She turns 11 on Monday, eating very little, won't touch cat milk, just drinking water. Is there anything we can do to increase her appetite and build up her strength for the operation? Or a supplement we can put in her water to give her some nutrients?

My boyfriends work mate is moving abroad and had a 4 month old black lab. They don't want to lose it but they have to and have asked if we'll take it.

We have a cat but the cat is very brave and wouldn't be phased by a dog. I'm a cat person and have never had a dog, what should I know? Does anyone have any advice?

My mum keeps doves and pigeons. Over the years she has lost some to old age but there are still a couple in their teens. She has had a few of the "go off their legs" sometimes when they lay eggs but they usually get better within a few days (the vet has checked them frequently and declared them fit and well, just trapped nerves).

However, one has recently "gone off her legs" again and is taking a lot longer to get better. She can eat, drink, coo, loves a cuddle and is otherwise ok, but dad thinks it may be cruel to keep locked up until she is better (my mum keeps her in a box in a bedroom). Dad is pissed off, and he is worried that doves and pigeons transmit all types of disesases, especially as she is living in the house! He thinks that enough is enough and she should have it put down before it gets too miserable. Mum wants to keep going until the dove recovers as she has a mate in the aviary who is the same age as her.

As i said before ONLY SENSIBLE ANSWERS PLEASE!

Thank you!

I've tried putting treats inside, taking the roof off the doghouse and putting food and treats inside, I even crawled in myself and fed her treats from the front entrance of the doghouse to try and get her to come in. She follows me everywhere, but she is refusing to walk inside.. any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I was told two weeks. I have two cats and neither of them have ever lived in another home. We have lived here two weeks and I have taken them outside on a leash. They want outside really bad. I want to let them out but I want them to come back. They are both fixed. There are sooooo many cats around here. I'm afraid they are going to get beatin up.

Tonight my dog has a seizure and to my knowledge, she has never had one before. Anyone have this happen and how often is it a solitary incident? I know she wasn't into anything poisonous that could have caused it. Does anyone have knowledge or opinions or experience on this?

And I did call the vet and told her everything I could before anyone assumes anything. I would never post a question about something serious that time would matter on and I know the majority of the answers are not vets...just pet lovers.

Okay, Here's the skinny:

I recently took my cat to an emergency Vet because he has been acting strangely. First we found out he has fleas, and he's been over grooming himself to try and get rid of them. We Used advantage, and he seemed fine. But then we found out he's been lying in his litterbox all day, and sleeping in it last night. The vet told me there was no Blockage, but he may have a urinary tract infection.

They gave him some medicine: Amoxil and Metacam (Aliquot). when I got him home, he actually stayed in his pet carrier (a first...) and really hasn't moved from it since (about 4 hours). He hasn't gotten up to get any water or food, and hasn't tried to use the bathroom. He's just sitting there and I'm really worried about him. Does anyone know if this is an effect of the medicine or is it something else? Is he a bit dazed form the antibiotics or is he scared? Should I urge him to leave the box? Should I force him to walk around? Please help, I'm really freaked about this.
