He's just an outdoor cat, don't worry most cats are
All you can do is just let him be but one thing you shouldn't do is get him de-clawed
like the only defense a cat has is their claws and if you take those away and let him outside your putting a poor helpless and defensless kitty out in the cold cruel world filled with nasty dogs that could hurt the poor innecent kitty

So just love him when you can and let him be, do you like it when your parents keep you locked up in the house all day?No so don't do it to him

p.s. I had 7 cats in my old house, all of them where fine but one,she wouldn't ever dare step outside even if we tried to get her to go. Cat's are independent but they still need your love

If he hasn't been neutered yet you should get it done, he probably is in heat and looking for a mate outside. If he is neutered, you may need to be militant about keep doors closed and screens on the windows. Cat's love fresh air and he's probably used to sneaking out. Petsmart and other pet places have large playpens for cats that you can put him and leave him outside supervised of course where he would be safe and not roaming all over yet outside where he wants to be.

Some cats just act like that.

Mine used to go outside every night- until he got into a fight and sustained a large gash on his neck. Now he's content to stay inside.

Neutering helps, but that's also his personality. Cats are very independent.

Even neutering doesn't stop some cats. If it was a major outdoor cat beforehand, it might still want to do the same thing after. It may get him to come back more often, though.

Cats are adventurous animal, especially male cats. Male cats won't just stay and sleep... they'll go what nature tells them to (find female cats to mate, and leaving their scent marking their territory). if you want it to stay at home, then vasektomi (not sure what it is for animals) might be the answer. when they can't make female cats pregnant, they'll give up going outside... but it's cat's happiness we're talking about, so think about it carefully.

Let her go outside for a while, and she'll get bored of going outside after a while and come back in.

Believe me, I have two cats and a dog!

it's his personality and you can't change him, probally all cats do that, even my nutered ones. He loves you because he keeps comming back, just try not to worry, I know it's hard not to. I like cats because they sleep all day like me, and you don't notice they're there

Get a dog.
That's what cats do.
