German Shepherd's are not as hyper, but they can be more aggressive to other dogs and people.

Labs are more versatile for training purposes.

Both are good breeds if you put forth the effort in training.

You may also want to consider a German Shorthaired Pointer.

It's a huge mistake to get a dog solely on how it looks. How old is the dog you're thinking of getting? Labs are crazy for their first two years, but eventually settle down (some). They dig the water, if you're into boating or bird hunting. Shepards make good pets, but have it temper tested--they are not all equal--and socialize it well. Best of luck.

I Like German Shepards, they are very smart and well protective.Good watch dogs. But speaking from experience they dig.Alot.They like to dig holes in the yard to find a cool spot in the ground,it's just their nature to do this.If you can stand the holes in the yard get a Shepard.I have one that is Shepard mixed, with what I have no idea, but he's mostly Shepard. He's a good dog,but like I said they are diggers.Word of advice, don't tie them up,let 'em run in the yard. They get stronger after awhile from being tied up because they are working against themselves.Mine is 50 pounds and I'm 220 and he pushes me back everytime he jumps on me,so I tried to keep him from jumping on me.My wife is 110 and she has a hard time with him.Train him/her not to jump on people unless it's for an attack.other than that they are good dogs.

Well both are good dogs...smart and loyal. I prefer labs because they like to swim and just seem friendlier. But if you want a dog that will be a guard dog as well, then go for the shepherd. Labs don't make such good guard dogs unless you want a burglar to be licked to death.

German Shepherds are wonderful, but they are not for everyone. They must be trained. They shed a lot, don't eat too much, like puppies and cats (for lunch), and can be very aggesssive. As a protector, friend and partner, they can't be beat. They are absolutely wonderful, but don't get one unless you are willing to make it a major part of your life.

Actually...get a blue heeler they are amazing dogs. Extremely smart and extremly loyal loving dogs. Labs can be really hyper and german sheppards tend to scare peopl that don't know them.
