Well my father made it during world war two... the leather around the handle was chewed up by a dog several years ago.. not terrible damage but fairly obvious teeth marks. I have been soaking it in water hoping to make the leather pliable enough to reshape. Is this going to damage it? Is there a better way to fix it without having to use new leather?? help!

I'm about to sign a lease for a one bedroom apt and there is electric heat. I'm worried it's going to break me in the winter paying the electric bill- (I live in MI too) How much more do you think it will be a month (twice as much as gas)???

The stakes are approximately 6' by 2". I know stakes used in grape vineyards are toxic, but these are used for fencing.

My husband insists we turn off the heat when nobody is around in the apt. I feel, it takes longer & costs more to turn the heat back on in a slightly cold apartment. Any experiences or documented theory to back-up my idea?

I would like to know how long wood logs last? If I only want to use it for an hour which wood size is best? Does a compress wood last a week? How does one take out a fire? Can one sleep with a fire place going? It has a chain screen.

I plan on building a small garden this Spring, and wanted to know what are some really good tips for helping my plants flourish? I want to plant some vegetables (carrots, radishes, tomatoes - nothing too complicated,) some herbs and some plants and flowers. I only know about egg shells. All advice welcome. It took forever for my herbs to grow last year, and most weren't large enough to be edible. My vines, however, flourished, but my flowers barely bloomed.

For a family of four who would like the ability to shower and do laundry simultaneously, what size well pressure tank should we buy? We currently have a somewhat old Flotec FP71101-3 16"x22" (not including the legs) that poops out mid shower, it also takes its time starting up. Are these things worth repairing or should we just buy a new one?

I have tulip bulbs in a glass container inside my house. They just finished blooming and were beautiful. I was under the impression that I could cut them down to make them grow back up again ... but since they aren't planted in dirt, I'm unsure about how to proceed. Will the bulbs resprout and bloom again?

I am curious what happens to the elderly or disabled people that are trapped in their homes and can't shovel snow. Who does it, and does anyone check on them? Also, how does one get a paycheck if they can't go to work for 4-5 days because of the snow?

My queen size mattress has a large dent along my fiancee's side and he has been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately because it is so uncomfortable. my side is slanted towards the crevace, which is also uncomfortable sometimes but not as bad as his side. What should we do? the house is a furnished rental and we can't buy a new mattress. but we also can't continue to sleep (or at least try to sleep) like this. is there something we can put under our mattress pad to fill out the dent? or other ideas?

I have never purchased a home or had one built, and I do not want to buy what is commonly called a "custom home" in a cookie cutter subdivision. I have ideas for the design on the home and plan to be involved in the design and construction process. I just need to know how to get started.
