I have always been told and read that you are supposed to re-cut the flowers about 1 inch from where they were originally cut put them in luke warm water with either the fresh cut flower food that comes with them or a mixture of warm water 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 teaspoon chlorine bleach also changing the water every couple of days is supposed to help them last longer too. i think that putting them in hot water would just do more harm to them than good.

If you buy flowers at your local food store or floral shop they usually put those packets of flower reserves in with them. You can add this reserve to water and then put the flowers in.

Try an aspirin or the flower food that comes with the flowers.Try a sugar substitute such as one splenda,etc.

A tablet of aspirin is the usual,there are many formula on sale for this specific need,frequent change of water is also recommended.

sugar, that's probably the reason the soda annother person suggested works. I did a science project on this in 5th grade and I still remember it! hehe. I think it's because plants need the glucose to continue functioning.
