Diatomatous Earth. It's a natural substance that is safe for pets and children. I believe you can buy it at your local hardware store. My neighbor gave me some last summer and it really works. You sprinkle it around and it looks like chaulk dust. I think it's like little chards of glass but not harmful to humans.

Some people consider borax organic. Definately not neurotoxin like the spray ant killers, and is VERY effective. It takes a while, but mix it with ant food (honey etc), and it will be taken back and take out the whole colony.

I have been told that outlining the area with chalk works. I'm pretty sure you don't want to use ant killer because of pets and kids and stuff. Maybe because you don't want to harm the ants but give this a try. they seem to not like it for some reason.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.

Cinnamon works very well for getting ants to move somewhere else. It doesn't kill them, but they don't like it and will move. They also do not like cloves, vinifar, cayenne, citric extracts, cinnamon, cream of tartar, salt, and belive it or not purfume!, peppermint oils, black pepper, chili powder and cornmeal.

You can also make something that will kill them using 1 part active yeast, 2 part mollasses and 1 part sugar. or u can use grits and that will make them explode.... but use instant grits, they work better

You could also use half ivory soap and half windex in a spray bottle it will kill them too.

Here's some advice on not how to kill them. Do not use water! An ant can survive under water for weeks so that would be useless to you.

beer works great. Either save up the skunk beers or just buy the cheap stuff and pour it right in the ant holes. They drink it and it dehydrates and kills them off. It really does work. I've used it with great success.

Impossible to kill them without poison!
I use 1 tsp. yeast
1 tsp. powdered sugar
1 tsp. borax
Mix and sprinkle where their trail is. The sugar attracts them, they carry the yeast back to their nests for food. The borax is what does them in.
