I'm about to sign a lease for a one bedroom apt and there is electric heat. I'm worried it's going to break me in the winter paying the electric bill- (I live in MI too) How much more do you think it will be a month (twice as much as gas)???

The electric company can give you the history of the electric usage for that apt, or you can ask a neighbor who lives in a similar unit.

I lived in a similar place and to keep the cost affordable I turned down the thermostat and used zone heaters where needed (such as the bathroom) and bought good warm bedding.

Small 110 V. ceramic heaters are very efficient and safe.

Ask the other tenants? But remember, if the electricity gos out your out of luck, but it you had a gas stove, at least you could turn it on and get some heat.

I have electric heat and it cost me an extra $300.00 this month, and this is with a new furnace, wish I still had my gas

it is cheaper due to the gas price raises, but you need to keep the thermistat at around 60,when you are not there,do not turn it on and off that is where they get you, it takes more to reheat after it has gotten cold.so remeber to keep it at about 75 when your there and at around 60 when your not. And your power goes out you will not have heat.
