I just take the low-maintenance approach and leave mine empty and turned off the with door open overnight. Hair dryer is dangerous, and I don't think the hot water method is effective because it cools off too fast to make a difference. Just let the ice buildup melt and eat take-out for a couple of days.

I've helped my mom defrost our huge chest freezer many times. We would unplug the freezer and take all of the food out and throw away anything that was too old. By that time the ice had thawed some and we would use plastic sspatulas to scrape the ice off. Don't use a metal spatula because it could scratch the inside of the freezer and cause it to rust.

be careful when using heat to defrost a freezer. Some models have insulation that will melt when exposed to heat. The best way for keeping you freezer in top working order is to drag it outside and hose it down with the garden hose. Then you don't risk electric shock or melting the insulation.

I would turn mine off the night before and then use lots and lots of hot water in pans.

Consider myself lucky living in a hot climate, all i do is unplug & leave the door ajar, need to empty the chiller tray couple of times, cannot deal with a wet floor.

Took it outside, and used a hose to melt the ice, done in 30 min.

Hair dryer, careful you don't get too close to the ice when it drips. Put plenty of old towels at the base of the fridge
