I've just had central heating installed. It is not state of the art, in the sense that it has a tank in the attic and my rads cannot be individually raised or lowered. Since I haven't had a bill yet I haven't a clue about running costs, etc. Could you tell me, please, if I turn off rads in the rooms I don't need all day heating in, would that lower the running costs? Or do you pay the same cost whether you have one rad on or six? People are telling me I'm going to have a gigantic bill. But, in the living room where we spend most of our time I have to have it on a decent temp. Can someone who knows about this please help me? I'd really appreciate it.

It's so inconvenient when filling up. You have to invert a full, heavy tank of water at the end to replace it in the humidifier. Would much prefer to refill the tank from the top without removing it, like one adds motor oil to a car.

I need answers only from those who have had to use space heaters please so the answers will be first hand from people who have used them. My house has no heat right now because my furnace went out Hopefully it will be fixed on the first but that is besides the point. Right now I have to use a space heater to heat up my house. I live in a small mobile home so both my living room and kitchen can heat up with only one heater. My living room is about 12 by 16 and kitchen about 12 by 12. I want to know if my electric will be going up sky high because I have my heater running from about 1am until 4pm when I leave for work and unplug it. Im on a budget plan on my electric meaning I pay the same amount each month until settlement month in may. I live in southeast Michigan. I heard alot of people say that my bill will be way up there, some say it may go up but not by much as the newer models are no different than using an airconditioner, some say I wont even notice a difference. Help

I planted seeds from a melon when I was seven why did they not grow?
I dug a hole.
grabbed the seeds out of the melon.
And covered them with soil.
I watered them every day for three years why did they not grow?

I am still hoping they will grow.
I'm 37 is there any hope?.

Is it possible to have both systems running in a house e.g underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs. As I understand it they both run at different water temperatures, so would this have an undesirable effect on the whole heating system?

She owns a roughly 40-y/o mobile home on a 13-acre lot that has been falling apart for years. Many appliances and fixtures don't work, and it's cluttered from deceased family members' possessions. I have respected her wishes to let her process all the stuff alone, but now she's having health issues; besides, I'm weary of seeing her being dragged down by the condition of the place, whether or not she'll admit to it! I will have to address it sooner or later anyway, as her next of kin. Neither of us has the money to stick a new house on the lot, what with all the attendant expenses of doing so. Does anyone have an idea how I can step in and make her surroundings an actual home, without riding roughshod over her and with no financial backup? Thanks...

My husband went outside last night and smelled gas coming from our gas meter. We called someone right away and when they came they told there were 3 leaks at the meter. How does that happen? Someone comes by once a month to read the meter in order to bill us, why didn't they notice it?

a huge grouse flew in and startred to eat the seed it walked about the garden for about 5 mins then a cat tried to catch it (no luck) eventually it flew away d'you think this was a one off thing maybe it got lost or should i try and encourage it to come back what do they like to eat any ideas.

It has been years since I got my first place, but my boyfriend just bought his first house. He always lived with roomates who already had everything so he is starting fresh, he has NOTHING. I want to go buy him some things today that he will need. I can only come up with towels. gimmie some more ideas please. Oh, I already got him a manual can opener, some dish cloths and dish towels.
