depends on how many rooms. you can get cheap house shares, rooms from about £40 per week. There are so many available at the moment it is worth coming down and getting the telephone numbers for the agents.

near the uni and town is expensive. for a flat or a house u are looking for 550 upwards. but slightly away from there such as cyncoed, riverside (all wakable or busing to uni) will be around 400. some might even give u 350 slightly away in ely, rumney but will have to take the bus.
