I hatched and raised some chicks and I used kitty litter for their bedding. Now I wonder if it's ok to use that in a flower garden. I know that the chicken manure is good, but is the kitty litter itself bad? as far as I know it's just clay.

I've read that they need good drainage, I think they have that, but how often do I water them? Every day, only when they look dry, etc.? The herbs I have are:

Sweet basil
greek oregano
thyme
cilantro
italian parsley
peppermint
spearmint
chives

and they're in pretty good sunlight. And I live in Texas.

One more thing, When a plants leaves turn yellow (I also have spinach and it's leaves keep turning yellow) do you need to trim off the yellow?

Thanks in advance fellow gardeners!

I have a small creek bed that Im work'g on to run dowhill also deepen & widen'd. The rain water runs off of my neighbor's property & onto mine, & floods our road to where my neighbors cant get out. So I have to do something.
My 3 ideas all include a retain'g pond, a re~circulation system w/ a pump, pvc, a spout & river rock. Only 2 of them would use a drip system.
My neighbor bought the expensive black hoses w/ the holes in them for her drip system & they're alreay dry~rot'g from the heat here (100 ~ 130). Granted it doesnt rain here in Arizona, but yet they r dry~rotting.
So which would b better to use~ Garden Hoses ~the real heavy stuff or the 1 Black Hose that's really tiny w/ a bubbler on the end (dont forget the dirt here isnt Ur every day stuff. It gets heavy & hardens to cement type substance. I already broke a shovel here), or the other Black Hose that's thick & full of holes?

I went to the Super WalMart the other day & they only had 3 types of seed left. The stand was 99% empty.

I know Target had Verbena but wanted $2.29 for the packet. Which is high. U would think Verbena being an Arizona Native, it wouldnt b so expensive.

So since my 2 favorite places have been wiped out at the Bell & Grand area, Im on the hunt for Verbenas, Lemon Mint & a bunch of others. As well as a few different Ornamental Grass seeds.

Or if U dont live in Az, where I could find some good prices on seed? I think anything over $1.79 is high but Im open to all suggestions now. Thanks.

I forgot the name of the plant. Its a common household plant that grows vines rapidly over the hanging planter(not spider). When we moved into the new house it was not cared for well. It does not grow anymore, but is still green. I suppose because I still water it. Is the plant dead? Can I root it? How do I root it. I bought the rooting powder.

We are new to gardening and planted three Encore Azaleas in October and now the plants look sparse and brown (there are some green leaves left but not many) is this a normal look for the azalea in the winter? Will they fill back out and green up in the spring or could they be dead? They are in partial shade and it hasn't been too wet or too dry this winter. We live in southeastern VA. Any insight is appreciated.

I bought sunflowers & seeds of hope in "seed ball" form, rather than just a packet of random seeds. I wasn’t sure when I should plant them. I have never used seed balls before so I don’t know if their more similar to bulbs or regular seeds just compacted together. Whatever you know about this form of planting and when to plant these types of flowers would be very helpful & greatly appreciated. I also have tulip bulbs...not sure when to plant them either.

Thanks!

i took my son to the park today and on the way back he picked around 5 daffidils and asked if we could put them in water at home, but as we were walking home this woman said we shouldnt have taken them from the park and said i could be fined up to £1000, shouldn't there be signs to say not to pick flowers?

I was cleaning up my yard this morning, cutting down all the dead stuff I'd left up for winter interest and I noticed a number of my plants have new growth starting at the bases. Obviously, we aren't out of the woods yet weather-wise (I live in Chicago), so should I cover that new growth up with mulch or uncover it and let it get some sun?

Thanks!
