I have two rose bushes, but I don't know how to trim them. How do I do it?

After all dangers of frost are gone, Choose 4 or 5 of the healthiest canes (stalks) that are evenly spaced around the plant. Prune them down to about 12" - 18" tall. Make your cut at a 45 degree angle and 1/4 inch above a node scar ( this is a bump that is visible from a previous set of leaves that were there) These "node" scars are visible all along the length of the canes.. There may even be leaves starting to bud from these areas if you live in an area that is experiencing springlike conditions at this time.. Roses are very hardy, and will take a heavy pruning on a yearly basis..It is very hard to totally kill a rose from pruning, so don't be scared off by this task! Once you do it, you will be an ol' pro at it.. In the end, you want to have 4 or 5 canes looking like a "vase" shape. Then sit back and watch them bloom. It's also a good idea to treat the roses with a fungicide just as they start to sprout new leaves, to prevent diseases like "black spot" from taking over. Your garden center carries many types of fungicides. Ortho has a good one called "Orthenex". It also controls insects associated with roses..With only 2 plants, you can get this in a spray can and it will last for a couple applications.. Treat them at least once a month for best results and to promote a healthy rose bush.. Hope this answers your question...
