We moved here from Florida and I love the smell of Gardenia (outside and not from a candle or anything) when I sit outside in the Spring/Summer... thank you for knowing!

Ok - I know this has been covered before - but here's the twist.
I live in an "open plan" street. i.e.we have no front fencing - our gardens are meant to "blend" Anyway, next door is brand new and they have no lawn. I, on the other hand have a huge, beautifully kept lawn and it takes me hours to keep it that way. Next door has a Pit Bull puppy that craps on my lawn about 3 times A DAY. I cannot use sprays and potions that will kill my grass, also, I cannot use things that will be washed away as the reticulation is on daily. My neighbour couldn't care less where his dog is, he is nasty and abusive, however, he is still my neighbour, and, as a single mother with children, I don't want to make an enemy of him. Yes, you read right - this person has a Pit Bull - a dog listed on the DANGEROUS DOG law, yet it has no fences keeping it in, it roams the street all day and has no collar. If I call the Ranger, he will know it's me, as this is a new development and I am his only neighbour.

We live on the south coast of England, and the mild winter has meant our lawn is looking a bit long and shaggy. Today is the first time it has been dry enough to think about getting the mower out, other half thinks it's too early, but I reckon it will just make it even harder the longer we leave it.

I am growing my own veg for the first time this year but last year we had a really bad black fly infestation followed by another of caterpillars. What would be the best way organically of saving my harvest? If it can't be done organically what would be the next best alternative?

Hi, I'd like to try companion planting carrots next to onions in my allotment. I'm a bit confused though because onions seem to need rich soil and carrots need poorer soil. What quality of soil would be best for both? Could carrots cope with well manured soil? Any advice gratefully received.

I bought a Christmas tree and the man I got it from told me it was "partially rooted". It's still in the bucket in the garden and looks healthy. Do you think it could survive if I plant it in the garden, or will it gradually just die? If you think I should plant it, would it do better in a damp area or an area that gets more sunlight? Thanks

Many of my plants are sensitive to the chemicals found in our tap water (flouride, salts, chloride, etc) but i cannot afford to keep buying specialized water for them. So my paIm have brown spots on the leaves and my spathes have brown tips.

I hear rainwater is great, but it dosent rain everyday, plus i live in an apartment-which makes rainwater collecting awkward. I have about 26 plants. mostly tropical foilage and maybe a few succulents......

seems I almost have more thistles, dandelions, and stuff I don't recognize (yay! new weed species in my yard!) than lawn. Will take me forever to spot weed kill, and besides, I don't really like putting petrochemicals on my garden. Is there such a thing as a commercially-available "green' weedkiller, which won't harm animals that eat it, but will kill weeds?
