It's kinda like when it rains and the ground gets wet, it's like that. Would it be alright to plant in it, or is it too wet? I know weeds grow really well in that area....lol, but I got all them out and have the ground ready, but it's just very moist. any advice would really be appreciated.

That is kind of a hard question to word. So I'm wanting to put a privacy fence up around my backyard. We have a gravel driveway that we park on. I would like to put the fence around the whole yard but I can't figure out the easiest way to put the gate up. There is an ally that is behind our house. I would like to be able to lock the gate when I leave. I've tried to figure it out on my own and nothing simple is coming to mind. I will obviously have to open and close the gate every time i go though it. Also is there a special lock that you use on these type of fences? Hope my question makes sense.

We were pulling weeds out of our rocks and there were little patches of grass that were super hard to pull!! So I moved the rocks and started pulling and it's like this long root thing is under there but it's not long/deep it runs below the soil horizontally and grows these patches of grass every 3-4 inches. I don't really know how to explain it - but it's all in the flower beds and it is almost impossible to pull it by hand. Need like a pick axe to dig and rip it out of the ground!

I want to put decking on my well drained 14 m2 enclosed patio. 4x2 joists would cost a fortune, so do you think it would be a good idea to use pallets as a base?

We planted canna's last summer and before the freeze this winter, we wrapped the base of them with burlap and covered them with plastic. They appear to be dead but wonder if they will come back. If they will come back, do I cut off the dead stalks and new ones will grow?

My husband and I live next some folks with about 30 rabbits. We have a large and growing compost pile of rabbit poo for our garden. How do I start using it? Other neighbors have given us 8 bales of somewhat waterlogged straw. If I mix the two, hoping in the future that it will break down into good organic soil, at what ratio should I mix them? Also - Thinking of maybe making a square box using the straw and putting the poo inside it hoping it will break down faster since it will help retain the heat as it composts. What do you think is the best way to do this? Thirdly and lastly - I have built 3 raised beds using pannels I made out of scrap lumber that are 6 ft. long and wide, and 19 inches tall. Since they are so tall I'm wondering if I can use some of the poo as fill - I know it would be bad if it was REAL close to where the veggi seeds get planted - but also we don't know where else to get fill and we will need several yards of soil/top soil to fill them up.

The thought of gobal warming scares the crap out of me? Always has. My mind flashes to movies like 'waterworld' and 'day after tomorrow'. I bought a car that gets 31mpg. I recycle cans, but I want to do more.
Thing is, I am up to my a@# in student loans. I don't have alot of time, or money. So building a ecohouse is out of the question, so is donating $50 a month to an eco-charity.

I want to do more. What are some realistic things that I can do?

While we were planting some small trees my wife said that composting stuff that hasn't fully composted is bad for new plants. I never heard that before. Would per chance a banana peel or tater peel hurt new plants? She said the stuff that's still breaking down uses energy and nutrients that would otherwise go to feeding the new plants.

I am looking for plants that are 3 to 5 ft tall. As the fence is in the back of the yard, during heavy rain this area becomes filled with water. There is mixed sun and shade in the area. I live in St. Louis, Missouri.
