The flowers are pretty dead now. Do I have to let them alone so the seeds will fall, or can I cut them back so the bed looks nicer?

I'm looking for some advise if possible, albeit from limited information. My partner and I both smoke, but never inside the house only outside and use a bucket to throw the ends into until they are cool enough to move to a bin. However over the past few weeks we've got lazy and not emptied it for a while. Due to recent rain the bucket (10litres) is approx 2/3 full & a few days ago our 5yr old told us there were "ants" in the bucket. We both had a look and these "things" look like tadpoles approx 3mm long (they are certainly living, moving "things" and LOTS of them). We did have a frog in the garden a few weeks ago which made me think tadpoles but still puzzled as to what these "things" really are and WTH are the feeding on ...... old cigarette ends can't be the best diet for any living thing, and do you get tadpoles in Autumn/Winter ? Any helpful advice as to what to do would be greatfully appreciated. Thanks for reading and I'm sure someone will have a giggle if nothing else

I planted a young flowering crab apple tree about a month ago and although it seems to be generally happy, I have just noticed that its trunk has developed a powdery green covering and also, there are a few holes in the leaves. Is this ok and should I treat it with anything?

I'm doing a plant book, and finding China-originating plants isn't as easy as it seems. I need 2 plants/division, and I already have flowering plants, conifers, ginkgoes, and 1 fern. Can you help me find more?

I'm doing a plant book for school, and I can't seem to find the common name for Cycas panzhihuaensis. I've gotten various common names, but I can't find 1 general common name.

I'm thinking it requires a bit of stealth. I wanna "transplant" the little bugger without hurting him and I caught a young one with a fishing net a few years back but this guy is a biggin'

I have used Scott's weed and feed but weeds prevail. Because it is the Floratam variety I can't use many products because the grass is killed along with the weeds.

Our housing subdivision has a nice pond at one entrance. Kids keep dumping soap in it. Will this hurt the pond environment? Does anyone have suggestions about how to deal with this?

I understand October is a good time to plant garlic in the UK. I have some Thermidrome garlic but have never grown garlic before. Do you plant the individual cloves and how deep and far apart should they be? Any information/tips would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm struggling to categorise where environmental + recycling stuff would go, as it's more than science + maths and would get lost in society and culture. I've stuck this under home and garden as the quality of our environment affects us all, although we don't all have homes and gardens ;o)

I understand an orange or apple or anything with seeds, you replant the seeds, but what about stuff with no seeds, where do the farmers get the seeds to keep growing our food.
