You can wait til spring.... and then trim them back before they begin to leaf out... about 2-3 feet tall. Remove any dead branches then too. Those will be from last years crop. You can tell they are dead because of their color... and peeling bark...and brittleness. Give the living ones a good dose of fertilizer and pray for a good spring. This time of year (fall) if you have not had frost yet, you should have a nice crop of berries from the newest shoots. Enjoy them.

I am presuming the raspberries are the ordinary variety that bear fruit in the summer, If they have newish fruit on them now then ignore the advice below.

Cut out the old fruited canes down to the ground. You can tell which these are because they will have darker and tattier leaves and the stems will be woody.

Leave about 4 or 5 new canes on each plant and tie these into the supports, or put in supports if there are none. These are the canes that will bear fruit next year. Weed around the root area and apply some good compost as a mulch.

Happy jammaking!!

IT DEPENDS. I dont see any answers that clearly addresses your question:

There are two kinds of rasberries. The kind I have bloom from Mid July till first frost and bear fruit during that time. These canes only produce fruit on a NEW canes thus I cut them all down in the fall. The new shoots in spring will produce the fruit.

The other kind produce fruit on the second year canes and should not be cut down in the fall/spring. I think these only produce fruit in the summer months. I dont have this kind so I am no expert on these kinds but appears others here are.

If yours has fruit now then cut them all down, if not see all the advise regarding the contrary.

When all the leaves have dried up, cut the canes, which have fruited down to ground level. The new shoots of this year will fruit the next. Tie these new canes to the support system.
Fertilize with compost or manure in the fall. Take care not to damage the roots.

All raspberries should be pruned in spring (March to early April).
The pruned material should be removed from the garden area and destroyed.

There are several types of raspberries - red, yellow, black, purple - and the techniques of pruning vary from one type to another...

So check this link for more details http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/hortnews/1997/2-7-1997/raspprune.html
Happy pruning! (in spring !)

Cut them back to say 3 ft - tie them in to supporting wires. Enjoy the crop next year . A bit of good feed may not go amiss.

You need to cut the old canes (which have fruited this year) back to ground level. If you do not know which have fruited the old canes are the ones which look brown and dead.
