I have a maytag side by side refrigerator that needs a water line ran from my basement to the kitchen. I have not had this done yet. In the mean time, Can I pour a bag of ice in the ice holder for it to dispense the ice?

Heres my problem... I have a flag and I have a pole. The problem is the pole is about 13 feet tall and I cannot get to the top of it. We are using this for tailgating this season and would like to hang the flag at the top, but we cannot climb the pole (its a light pole fixed in the ground). We used to stretch and use zip ties to loop through the flag holes and around the pole but we used could only get the flag about half way up... Any ideas on how to rig something to make it easier to put the flag up and take it down?

My house has a Central Air unit.
As is common for this unit (at this time of the year) it is collecting so much water that this possibly causes a problem with it's drainage system - My house has a pre-installed drianage system for this Air unit.
The 2 inch pipe from this unit going to my underhouse plumbing is begining to clog with the bacterial growth!
This pipe is clogged with this algae growth.
Will a dose of ROEBIK K-77 (tree root killer for spetic lines) work to clear this pipe?
The PVC plastic should be safe for the caustic chemicals (copper sulphate) in the Roebik.
I do use Roebik K-77 in my underground plumbing system, which does help keep the tree roots under control.
Thanks.

I Have a cherry wood floor, about a year old. It has taken on loads of dents from where we had guests wearing high heeled shoes. There are also various scratches. I guess I need to sand this down, but would I need to sand back to the wood, or will a light sand do the trick before finishing?
Is there any finishing products that will make the wood a harder glaze, so try and reduce the risk again?

I have installed new granite counter tops and one of my buddies was telling me / showed me how his granite chipped while doing dishes (sink is sunk into countertops). Now I know that I should be careful, but is there anyway of protecting the granite. I was thinking of something like a clear tape (kind of like how hey do car hoods), but nothing too gaudy.

similar to it) which of the following would make better waterproofing?

(This is for a writing project, not for school, and I can't do actual testing.)

possible choices: charcoal, wood alcohol, acetic acid, creosote, pine resin, turpentine, vegetable oil, rendered lard, floor wax, sharkskin. any combination of the above

Applied how? just soaked? Boiled in, painted on? In what order?

The object is to get a material that originally grew in water waterproof enough to withstand continuous soaking in water without becoming soft and useless again. It is to be used for building boats, cages for fish-farming, water's-edge construction, etc. No alternative materials are available, so we must learn to make do with what we have.

Thanks for all serious answers. If this isn't clear enough, ask for more details and I'll provide them. I won't award the best answer without checking your additional details, either.

Fair enough?

I need to use a mat cutting board to cut a mat for a large photo, but have never used a mat cutter before. I think I'd be a little more at ease if I could find some directions or a tutorial of the basics of using a mat cutting board. Can anyone point me to one or tell me how to use one? Thanks :)

I already have floor adhesive for tile. I also have some grout, but, don't know if it will hold it together or if it's just for looks. So, what will work that I don't have to buy something? The 2 pieces are on a lazy susan and the back had to be pieced, free stuff. Remember the top has about a 1/4 inch edge around the whole top. So whatever I use can't fall down under the counter. (you won't believe this but this counter was from Aug 07 and was used to make pallets!!! I will paint all the edges. This isn't a permanent arrangement I hope, but, then remodelling an old house is a nightmare.
