I have hardwood floors in 3 rooms of my home, they appear to be finished, although not slick or shiny how do i make them this way without staining them. They have a very thin coat of finish, but they feel rough to the bare foot touch like sand paper, and if you walk on them in bare socks you sort of stick like walking on bare wood, are they unfinished? How do I clean them, can I just use Murpyhs Oil Soap and a sponge mop to clean. I want to maintain the color they are now, what is the cheapest and safest way to make them shine and smoother?

I want to replace my toilet and don't know if I'll get in trouble with the co-op. Toilets and sinks are my responsibility, but I'd like to avoid asking them if I need to be licensed for basic plumbing.

I want to install a direct to stud tub surround. I'm not removing the drywall from tub to ceiling, only as high as the tile - leaving approx. 2ft of drywall. Once I remove the tile/drywall, can I slide the lip of the surround under the remaining drywall, or do I remove enough drywall so the lip is exposed and then cover the lip with drywall, mud, and tape? I hope that makes sense.

I’ve owned a SprayTECH® DSP 1620 Piston for a year (oct 2005) and used it over 30 times. Is it the cheap latex paint I’m using that hindering the machine. i always use pump save and i clean the tip after its used.

should i just go out and get a roller with a electrical pump system?

Finishing a basement with ceramic tile. I'm using 1/8 spacers for my grout line. I was told not to use the sand grout because it will be too hard to press into joints and isn't necesary because joints are so small it doesn't need the extra sand strength. What type should I use? As for color, I don't want to see stripes. I would like the grout to just blend in. My tile is cream/lt. beige w/grey marble like pattern. Do I use a light grey to bring that out or do I try to match the cream color? I came home from an unhelpful tile store confused and discouraged. I tried their plastic grout samples but when I saw the same color of the actual grout on one of the tiled sample it looked nothing like the plastic sample because of the sand speckling. Its taken so long for me to lay to tile and I had no idea how hard this was going to be. 1600sq ft. is a lot to look at if I choose the wrong color or product. I would truly appreciate any help.

I had this idea to build a 16' x 7' overhead garage door, but I'm not sure what type of wood to use. I'm a theatre technician. So, my idea was to build each segment similiar to a broadway flat. The way I build a broadway flat is by using 1" x 4" pine as a flat frame with the 4" part connecting to the luan panel. I don't think that either of those materials would be suitable for outdoor use, but I would like to use materials with similiar properties. I will be using standard garage door hardware on it, but the flats are just the basic concept.

I'd like to know if I can replace my 2 wire non digital (hot water baseboard heat, oil fired) thermostat with a 7 day programmable thermostat from Honeywell. I've tried looking at the www.yourhome.honeywell.com site but they don't actually show you how many wires are on the back of the unit I want to install (RTH8500D). I want to buy the item from ebay because I can save myself about half the cost, but I also cannot return it if I buy the wrong thing. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am refinishing a dresser and the drawers alone have cost me several sheets of sandpaper (I'm using a DeWalt power sander). The paper doesn't get used up... it gets gummed up by the paint that is coming off... is there some way to get the paint off a bit before sanding? Is there some product that would prepare the paint for sanding better?
Thanks!

The sun shines bright into his room and I would like something to put on the window to make it darker. Is there something that is like a window cling that will block the sun out of his room? I've tried hanging a black blanket up but now that he's walking, he could pull the whole thing down along with the nails that is holding the blanket up and it's not safe. Is there something that will block the sun out without being hazardous to my walking baby?

I bought a wooden toilet seat approximately 8 weeks ago from a well known DIY store (UK). The toilet seat is used in the main family bathroom, which tends not to get used very often as we use the en-suite more. Last night I noticed that the seat, which cost about £25, had a huge split in the wood that had literally appeared from nowhere. The seat had not been dropped, banged or anything like that. I phoned the store up this morning and explained the situation. Obviously, after we knew that the seat fitted, we threw the packaging and receipt away. The assistant told me that it was up to the duty manager to decide whether he would replace it. She very quickly asked him as she said he was right next to her (coincidentally I thought) and came back and said that unless I had proof of purchase, they would do nothing. The seat was their own make and I explained this but she repeated herself. I think that they have a duty to exchange it as it is obviously not fit for use but what are my rights

I have five, 4' single bulb flourescent fixtures that I want to replace all on one circuit. They are old and have trouble keeping bulbs in place and I constantly replace bulbs. I have a drop ceiling and would like to replace with recessed lights, but I am worried the wattage would be too much for the circuit to handle. Has anyone experienced this repair before? Would I be better off just replacing the old flourescent fixtures with new ones?
