Depends on what you consider expensive. I just refurbished my father-in-laws wood floors. I rented a vibrating floor sander, (not an orbital), and sanded the floors to a smooth finish. Remove the paint stains with a light solvent and rag before sanding. When you are pleased with the smoothness of the floor, stain it with a colored floor stain such as Oak or Cherry color. Once dry, apply several layers of polyeurothain, sp?. Sorry about the spelling on that, but the poly stuff will make it durable and shiny. The sander is around 30-50 bucks a day, and you will probably spend around $15 a gallon for stain and poly stuff.

you do not say what sort of timber, yet initially you may sweep away any residue then use a vinegar and water answer via blending a million cup of white vinegar to a million gallon of warmth water to make a comfortable timber floor cleansing answer. a million. Dip a cotton cleansing textile into your cleansing answer and squeeze out lots of the liquid. 2. Wipe the floor without getting it soaking moist. 3. artwork on one small section at a time. 4. in the present day buff the section dry with yet another textile or towel carry out the shine and lustre. do not enable your wood flooring to get too moist and via wiping it dry you will not have any water spots. If it truly is truly grimy, a pair of washes could be mandatory over some days.

A wood floor that is imperfect actually has a lot more character than one that is perfect. Clean the floor as good as you can. Use Scotchbrite pads to clean off anything extra.
Coat the floor with water based poly. You put it on with a pad and it drys very fast and looks great.

have a party. with dancing, take th furniture pretty much out of the room. get huge bags of roasted peanuts, encourge your guests to throw them on the floor and walk on them and dance n them. yeah right you say.
The peanut oil that will come out of the shells is good for the wood floor. peanut oil itself cost more than other oils. you can get bags of peanuts roasted pretty cheap....big bags. or simply use some other oil, but peanut is best. otherwise, it is strip and sand and revarnish...not all that expensive if you do it yourself, but a heck of a lot of work. by the way, beer spilled on the floor when you do the peanuts wont hurt it any either.

Rent a floor sander for about $75.00 including paper. Then cover it with 3 coats of polyurethane. It is more work than money, but it will be worth it.

The best thing to do is sand it first with a floor sander, then stain and polyuethane it. Becareful with the floor sander though, they like to crash into walls and bust drywall.
