I want to replace my toilet and don't know if I'll get in trouble with the co-op. Toilets and sinks are my responsibility, but I'd like to avoid asking them if I need to be licensed for basic plumbing.

I've done quite a few toilet replacements in several different states, etc. and have never run into any "code" for replacing a toilet. However, if you were to do it yourself, make sure your confident in what your doing, there can be a tremendous liability to you if you were to cause a leak which damaged your unit...and even worse several other units.

For your own home, no. But if you do jobs like that for others, and charge for it, then you're considered a plumber, and better have your license handy. You can also replace pipes in a home you own, but in somebody else's (or a rental unit), you better know the codes.
