the fo17w835k is a 24 inch 17watt T8 bulb, the 835K is the color temperature. T8 is the thickness of the bulb, its around the size of a quarter. the one you have now is probably a ge or slyvania, you could also use a f17t8/tl835, its the same thing just made by philips.
the f96t12 is an eight footer. the wattage depends on if it's high output or normal output. if its normal output it will put out around 75 watts. high output around 110 watts

The F96T12 is an 8' bulb available in different wattages from 60 - 215.
Can't tell you what the Osram's are but their site might help.

In general I like the info that skwigMATI has provided. It tends to corroborate what old info I have from a Sylvania inquiry back in '91.

Are these bulbs "good"? That's a judgement call -- depending on what you regard as good.

If you already have the right fixtures for the tubes then you might want to consider this: That FO 17 that burns 17 watts of electricity puts out abt 1200 lumens of light, whereas the typical 60 watt indandescent puts out abt 850 lumens; 100 watt incandescent puts out abt 1700 lumens. (flourescent: 70 lumens/watt vs incandescent 14 - 17 lumens/watt) The F96 puts out somewhere like 85-95 lumens/watt. HOWEVER, flourescent tubes/bulbs do cost more than typical incandescent, and their lifetimes are shortened if they're short cycled (turned on and off frequently).

Not sure about the osrams
T12 are the old standard bulbs- used magnetic ballasts
T8 are more popular- electronic ballasts, noticably brighter
T5 are used mainly in commercial applications, very thin bulb, electronic ballast, extremely bright
All are available in various lengths from 36inch to 96 inch

17w =17 watts
35k =3500 kelvin, or daylight standard bulb
96 =96 inches
T12 approx 1inch diameter bulb
T8's are smaller diameter and are becoming the standard
