Decorating & Remodeling - June 2007

Hi there, I am looking to buy a full duvet set,I don't just mean the blanket,pillowcases and sheets, I mean everything that makesit a HUGE puffy bed. I think there is something that supposed to go on top of the mattress to make it confy etc.what all could I buy and whats it all called?!?! thanks!!

How can I make it edgier. It's going to be really girly but I want to make it a little more rock & roll. Edgier. The paint is bought and I cant return it. It just needs some edge. How can I do that??? Do you know of any places where I can buy gothic or cool furniture??? Anything cool will do. I need advice. The room is 12 x 11. I want to buy a new desk and vanity table. Ok i need some decorating advice..and fast! lol anyways..Ok so what im looking for is a beachy/preppy/fun/lounge type space for my bedroom. My walls are a light pink but my mom sed that i cant repaint them :( everything else is basically white. white desk,bed,comfortor,trim,roman shades,and wardrobe are all white! my carpet is a shaggy sand color. my room is medium sized and i have one square windo on the far wall. so do you have any ideas as far as decorating? please just dont name websites!

I'm seriously contemplating replacing my cheapo builder-installed carpet with hardwoods. I'd like to know what time of year the prices for the materials and installation tend to be best - as with all things, I assume there's a peak season when they charge a premium, and an "off" season when they have big sales. Anybody know?

We have just spent a lot of money refinishing our basement for our 6 children, ages 7-12. I would like to put the classic black & white checkerboard pattern on the floors and bring in LOTS of bright colors to make it feel less like a basement. Does anyone have any unique ideas of how best to bring color in and what colors - I don't really want to just paint each wall a different color.

I am going to buy TUNDRA laminate from IKEA and the reason was that the color. I liked the white color. The price is 1.25 sf (Canadian). I appreciate if anyone has any experience with IKEA laminate let me know if that is a good choice.

We are building a new house and I am fighting with my husband about the kids bathroom. I want to use a tool box for the vanity so that htey have all the drawers for earrings and make up. I think it sounds cool
I want to put the sink sitting on top but do not know how to do this with the pipes and not lose drawer space Any Ideas would be great

He told me that a lot of people who use thompsons find out a year later that they have to re-stain/re-seal. He said that the product dosen't last very long and it's not as good as the behr sealer that they sell. I was just curious about the truth of this. What has been you guys experience with Thompsons Advance or reg Thompsons.

Okay, so here is the situation so far. I bought french doors at the local Home Depot on a weekend. I asked that I be called about the 'measuring' appointment before I left town the following Wednesday. I got the call Wednesday evening around 8 pm (they left voice mail) after I had already left. I get back and one other voice mail had been left on Sunday evening (which I found odd). I called when I returned on Wednesday, I didn't get a call back Wednesday. Finally got a call back late Thursday. The guy that is supposed to measure for the door says.. "I can come tomorrow", but I had to go back to work that day... he said he could measure from the outside of the house while I was at work. When I got home from work I could find no evidence he'd measured. I received no call from Home Depot about paying for the balance on the door or for scheduling the installation. I called Saturday morning, and was told they would 'leave a message' for the measuring guy (more in details).

I will have a new kitchen fitted soon and wished to use granite instead of wall tiles to cover the walls. Do you think it's ok if i use a a different colour of a lighter shade so as to have some contrast or should i keep the same colour of the counter tops?? Its classic style and of oak. Was thinking of a green granite. What you think ???

So I have a pet boxer (brown with a bit of white and black) and I need new bed sheets. I know he probably shouldn't sleep in my bed but he is such a baby and I just can't let go. What color do you think would be the best for my bed sheets? He sheds a little and I already know that black shows alot of hair. What do you think?
