I'm 56 and want to start decorating my house. I have chosen the out of date look of Home country look by Debbie Mumm, I am quite crafty and can sew up a storm so fell I can make do, but do you have ideas on how to search for sites besides ebay that might show older mumm stuff ? Or suggestions. I am open to comments and even if you don't agree with me, I'd like to hear about your giftedness since decorating isn't mine :)

The reason I am asking is because I am being charged 55/hr for him to knock down a load bearing wall (8 ft span), and place a beam at the top (below the joists), there is no attic work involved. The total cost for this job is estimated $2,875 which he states I won't find a better price anywhere else. Is this true?

Thank you for your answers, but sorry - I messed up! I meant to say that my faucets, etc. are polished CHROME!! But I'm not liking many of the Polished Chrome lighting fixtures, so I was hoping I had another option?

I am a graphic designer - you would think I would be good at this kind of thing but I am stuck. My boyfriend and I are building a house. I want our kitchen walls to be a wine/maroon color - we are going to have a nook, so the wine color will also be in the nook. Our living room is right next to the nook (open area). Our original plan was to put marroon carpets in the living room. Too much Maroon!! Now I am stuck. I wanted to put hardwood (which is going to be in the kitchen and nook) in the living room too, and put a rug over the hardwood, but we decided we dont want that much hardwood on the first floor. We want our walls to be a nutural light brown. My other idea was to put a tan carpet instead of the wine/maroon and put big multi colored rug in the middle. I'm not sure if that would look good - I think I have seen someone do that once. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them!

I have a bedroom with wall paper literally on sheet rock. When I get the wall paper off what do I do next? It is better to re wall paper or paint? Is there anything I can put on the sheet rock that is not to messy before wall papering or painting?

We've looked at the pros and cons that we can think of for both ways, but we're still not sure.

If we install the c. tile first and have it go under the cabinets, that resolves some issues but is such a waste of material (& $). We could also have the c. tile go slightly under the cabinets and fill the rest with plywood underlayment. But if we do this, how do we secured the island to the floor without breaking the tile?

Or we could install the cabinets first and install the c. tile up to them. This would cause a lot of cutting, and it would cause issues with the dishwasher - if we tile under it, then it would be too high for the countertop...but if we don't tile it, it's too hard to install.

Any suggestions or advice would be great. I'd even take opinions as long as there's some basis in understanding of what we're doing.

Thanks! :-)

See, my bedroom is a very rich and elegant french bistro theme. There are dark browns and oranges, yellows and golds... I have always wnated an all white bed and sheets, yet I am afraid that it would look lost with the chocate colors. Do any of you have an all white bed with vibrant color schemes? Thanks!

We are looking to purchase a new sofa but have two puddy cats, what is the best sofa fabric to go for? I know that whatever we choose it will get plucked to a certain extent, but if we could choose one that has the possibility of lessening the damage is would be great! If anyone can advise it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

p.s. they have a scratching post but they still seem to love the sofa :) x
