I used to have deep red walls with my pine, it sounds quite garish but with cream bedding it was amazing

I agree with Oldgirl. That's exactly what I have, along with some large baskets, a natural color wicker rocker.

i would say combine soothing beige and country colors. accent here and there with dark country colors. i say country because i usually associate pine furniture with country (but that's just how my mind works)
