I am in the Boston area doing a condo conversion and the condos have a short 6 feet of countertop, then the stove, then about 2 more feet. I have had no luck finding stainless steel countertop vendors or supplies. Any ideas?

We bought black furniture for our den and i was just going to paint the walls white (theyre very light pink) but after 2 coats its not covering. I was thinking of doing something a little darker to help cover up the pink. Nothing crazy though. So what other colors do you suggest?

The plaster walls are from the early 20th century and in either the 70's or 80's, the previous owner attached either ceramic or plastic tiles to our bathroom walls. I'm sensing a complete gutting, but hate the idea of losing the lovely plaster.

The benchtops and cupboards are a dusty pink colour, and the tiles in the room are pink and beige patterned. I need to paint all the adjoining walls and don't know what would look good with pink. I don't want to be boring and paint them beige or offwhite.

I need some help, I am considering moving into this little country house. Which is old and a little run down as most older country homes are. It has a lot of potential to be cute. I just need a little bit of help fixing it up. Now I dont know if the landlord wil be replacing the carpet as of yet. But I can pretty much do as I please to this. I do not want to get carried away as i dont have tons of moola. Any suggestions as to Brightening it up? Making this corner old fashion fireplace thin functional??? There is carpet thru out except kitch, and bath. I was thinking maybe doing tile in the room with the fire place, and carpet in the upper level, not to sure if that will look good and what colors, the kitchen floor was recently replace with that cheap "wood paneling" lienolm or whateva you call it. However it is cute and give it an ritzie feeling. How should i tie in the tile and carpet with this?? see image of floorplan

I am getting ready to renovate a house...or hire someone to do it. Anyway, I am having someone take down the accoustic popcorn ceiling...I just hate it. And I want to repaint. I want a smooth modern look. But my mother-in-law is swearing that I have to put a texture down first. She says I have to use a "knock down" texture than I can repaint it. She says no one has a smooth ceiling, that everyones has a knock down texture. I am looking at my current house's ceiling and it doesn't look like I have any texture at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can someone settle this for us?

We are renting a house and the floors are awful in the kitchen. Need some really cheap ideas on how to replace them. We were thinking laminant or vinyl, but if we get the kind that look like wood floors, does it look really cheap? Any other ideas on cheap types of floors or refinishing what we have?

Quick! The Stone Masons are coming and I want to resolve this before they get started, but noone can give me a good solution. Besides a freestanding screen, what can I do for privacy? I have moved into a house with a two-sided gas fireplace that you can see straight through from the sitting room to bedroom! (stone on sitting room side and marble/wood mantle on the bedroom side) I don't know what the builders were thinking...possibly that they would never have nosey children running around the house and that whoever might buy the house after they were finished with it wouldn't have children either.

I live in a very small apartment and when you sit on the couch the air like almost blasts in your face. I was hoping I could put something over it that would direct the air down rather than straight out also hoping it would hide the ugliness of the thing.

I have a large wall space above the fireplace -- 20' ceilings. The space is framed by moulding above the fireplace. All in total probably 6' wide by 13' high. The moulding is white and the walls around it are a dark khaki. I want to do something unique -- from something as simple to painting the space a contrasting color to stacked stone (too expensive).

I've thought of doing box moulding in the area...even a stone tile. I don't want to hang a picture or a tapestry.

Any thoughts?
