always go for plain walls. it will be cheaper and will take less time to redecorate when your children outgrow the decor. also, we all know furniture can be expensive so go for furniture that have no kid's theme on them. do the flowers, or disney theme, barbies, etc. with bed sheets, curtains, pillows, posters, and such. kids will outgrow these things so it's more practical to keep the walls and furniture plain. it is much easier to replace pictures and bed sheets than walls and furniture...hope i make sense and good luck!

When I decorated a room for my niece, she looked Disney Princesses, so I painted the top half of the wall white, and the bottom pink. I added a Disney Princesses border to the join and then added murals to each wall, Cinderella & Snow White, Ariel & the one from Beauty & the Beast. Along side I added much smaller a few of the other characters from each film, but it sparked it up a little. It does take a little more time, but the look of delight on her face made it worth it. I also added plenty of storage space, for clothes, games & toys, a simple lamb and something to play music on, meant that (I hope) she would spend many hours in her room enjoying it.

stick with a fun but simple color for the walls and instead of a border run a thin type of rope around the top of the wall and buy some of those little cute clothes pins form a craft store, they can hang their favorite pics, art projects and other things as their very own personalized border, and if there tastes change in a month or two, just let them hang new pics with the clothes pins

Butterflies and dragonflies are fun. You can get appliques at Walmart. I am a fan of pale yellow for girls- it is cheerful but not too girly. My daughter's room is yellow with purple accents in the curtains, pillows, and bedding. Try looking at Pottery Barn Kids for ideas- the stuff can be high, but the ideas can be done for less.
What kinds of things are the girls interested in?

First, keep in mind your older one will be sprouting hormones any minute now! Don't make her room juvenile.
1] what are their favorite colors? [ paint ]
2] what are their favorite characters/books/sports/hobbies?
[ bedding or wall decor ]
3] let them help plan. Ask for ideas [ more than one, some will be easier than others ]
4] take them shopping for their rooms, and get them to help paint.

I in touch my daughter in re-doing her mattress room and permit her pick the colour scheme interior the barriers of present furnishings and mushy drapes and stuff. i think of that as long as you dont over-kiddy it as you're rightly frightened of and seem at her desires in 5 years time and sleep overs with pals (your daughter wont pick to sense embarrassed) the team artwork of you and your beautiful baby could be great exciting and he or she might sense like she has an investment in her room and a place it relatively is particularly hers - know what I recommend? i might constantly dispense with carpets presently on account that they carry all forms of grunge and are confusing to maintain sparkling. organic wood or laminate with bright yet low-fee rag rugs or something like that make an rather bright selection. As to mushy sage green , a lot of hues - alongside with dusky pink might bypass with that. you are able to concentration on age correct photos and posters on the wall that could get replaced as she grows older and easily no sketch characters which make me puke too!!! till that's somebody like Dora the Explorer yet on account that she hasnt seen that , no loss. What approximately asking her to entice some specific photos which you would be able to then put in low-fee Ikea frames and he or she could be so proud!! Chimes close to the window and crystals to reflect rainbows are great. - only contain her and it is often dazzling for her to have her very own specific area !!!
