I'm going to repaint several rooms in my house. The rooms are smaller and have always either been white or off-white. I want to go darker and bolder, but am unsure of what to expect. Do paints tend to dry darker than the samples? I'm looking at darker greens, barn reds, and maybe even some browns (all with lighter ceilings). I know it's only paint and can be covered, but if I find a color I like, will it dry to the color I want? I have moderate sunlight with additional room lighting from lamps.

I also have dark navy blue colored couches with earthtone tans and browns in them. I just want some perspectives.

At one time they use to make sheetrock with plastic sheeting on the back side for use as basement walls. It was supposed to block humidity. But is it recommended for ceilings?

I have ceiling sheetrock of that type in my house and mildew spots on the ceiling and walls that keep coming back. That part of the house is over a 2-car garage that is indeed damp. Could that vapor barrier be trapping humidity?

Any advice would be appreciated.

regards,
andrew

My husband and I just moved into a new house that did not have a fence in the backyard. We were told by our relator that the other house that occupied the space was vacant and so we found where the property line was and built a fence. We have 2 dogs so a fence was necessary in case someone did decide to occupy the other house. We have come to find that there are people living in the house. We spent over $1000 in materials and my husband built it, so there were no labor costs. We would have discussed fence possibilites with this neighbor had we known they were there. How do we go about asking for a portion of the costs? We dont expect them to pay for half since they had nothing to do with the decision making.. but some money would be appreciated.

I really like Granite Countertops but they are expensive. A friend was telling me she read somewhere about countertops that could be covered with a material that looked like Granite, and was alot cheaper. Does anyone know the name of this kind of covering?

I now have a white refrigerator and would like to change the color but do not wish to purchase a new one as it is only 1 year old. Are there "skins" to cover the orginal exterior available or is painting the only option?

A "friend" quoted my at $5,000 for all materials and labor. I am afraid I am getting ripped off. Some coworkers think I should be paying about half that.
I know lumber is expensive, but still.......

've been "re-habbing" a commercial building that has about 300 sf of brick floor. It is about 25 years old. Between the age and the dirt, dust, plaster etc that I've track onto it over the last few months it is quite dirty. Not greasy, just plain old dirty. I've scrubbed it with a brush and lots of clean water and it is looking significantly better, but the pits in the brick still have dirt. Can I use a steam cleaner or some other sort of wet vacuum to accomplish this? Quite frankly, I'm just tired of scrubbing over and over. The bricks are sealed (25 years ago?). Once the floor is clean, I've got some Silica Sand to brush onto/into the floor to fill up the gaps inbetween the bricks. I then plan to put a fresh coat of sealer on top. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thanks! -mk

I am supposed to help my friend paint inside of her apt tonight but its storming outside and there is 50%-78% humidity outside. She called a painting company and they claim if your not using KILLZ then you are ok? I thought differently. Does anyone know the truth? Shes not living there, shes moving in saturday, but it is supposed to be raining another few days.
