I have a pretty wide open floor plan, you can see my kitchen easily from near the foyer area. My cabinet are oak and I have a light tan colored tile on the floor and as my backsplash.

Go with a lighter counter/contrast tone, an opposite wood color.

I would pick something with a medium light background but has a dark grain pulled through it. his will keep it from being too dark yet pull the dark of the Mohagany into it to compliment it. This will also allow you to change the furnishings if you want in the future and still have a neutral floor

Go for a light coloured wood to contrast the darker furniture colours. If you put down darker coloured flooring your rooms will appear darker and smaller, lighter coloured flooring will have the opposite effect.
