The grout was fine befor we sealed it. Now it's kinda splotchy looking. Followed the directions on everything though. Any ideas on what happened and how to fix it???

and post the question and photo's. there are tilesetting experts there that can review the issue and advise you better than this site.

That's a tough situation. If it's completely dry, there isn't anything easy that can be done. You may want to put another coat to see if it changes the look but I doubt it will make any difference. Grout is porous and will only absorb a fixed about of sealant. The condition you describe will occur if sealant is applied to grout which has not completely cured or for some reason the grout has varied composition. Did you use the same grout everywhere? Was some other liquid spilled on the grout before the sealant was applied? In any case, removing sealant from grout is very difficult without risk of repeating the same problem you currently have. You may have to live with it. Good Luck.

There is a certain type of sealer that you can buy that makes the grout appear darker or maybe "wet". Chances are you missed some spots. Applying a second coat to the lighter areas should help. If it does not I'd tear it out and re-grout the are or hire a professional to come and fix it.

the sealer will make it darker. i think you are stuck with it.. unless you go over it again with the sealer to even out the splotches.

maybe the sealer was old and not mixed up good enough.
