My boyfriend and I recently moved into a trailor out in the country to "update" a few things for a friend of the family to rent it out. I'm interested in painting the kitchen cabinets (they're BLACK!!!) and I'm wondering if anyone has ever attempted this on such cheap wood? And do you have any suggestions? And in simple words, can you tell me exactly how to do it? (I've never painted anything in my life.)

Also, there's other small things, like light fixtures, that in my opinion would look better with a satin nickel finish, rather than this horrid 80's gold that's in here. Do you have any idea if it's possible to paint over these small metal pieces? I thought I had read somewhere that it was, but was looking for someone to validate that "fact", if you will. That way I don't make TOO much of a mess, lol. (If an easy solution doesn't work out, I just might have to replace them all, eh?) Thanks a bunch!!

We are about to buy a new home. The kitchen cabinets are white and we prefer a wood look along the lines of honey oak or cherry. Has anyone tried to reface white cabinets with a wood? What suggestions would you have?

i have 2 big fireplaces in my house but i've never used them or plan to use them, so do they still count as the "fire" element?

one is located to the south, and the other is directly east in a 2nd livingroom. they are both covered with black marble, lots of it

I have been looking for new house for awhile I finally found one in a good location and I am considering buying it.However it is quite ugly from the outside (the inside looks fantastic)

What measures can I take to make this house(minus garden) better from the outside? I really dislike the orange bricks and white roof.

My budget is probably 10k. Thanks in advance for your answers!

I have a whole month to do the work. Do I need to tape seams once scraped? Do i need to re-texture the ceiling? Can I just prime and paint the ceiling?

Of course, if the carpet cleaners are careful and don't bump the walls, it won't be a problem, but you never know! I'm guessing 1-2 days? Obviously the shorter the better!

I'm considering building a home from scratch and I heard that prefab has come a long way from the flimsy trailer-looking things...

There are two attractive aspects:
(1) cheaper
(2) faster

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on prefab homes, especially if you've had one built, or live in one, know someone who does...

thanks for any input!

Im talking completely bare, down to the grayish smooth surface. What is the first step in making it a beautiful hardwood surface? You could even share step two, three for four if you care to do so. Thank you for your help.

My husband and I just bought a new house and are in a dispute over the decor. Should The hall match the Living room or the Bathroom? Both open to a long hall which leads to the front door. I know it sounds petty but it's a long hallway and it 's the first thing people see. What do you think?Any tips or advice would be helpfull.

I've seen a lamp but don't know any of the details to research it further.

The shape is that of a traditional table lamp, but the entire thing is cast as one white piece that all lights up. Additionally the lamp is tilted on its horizontal axis so that it appears to have sunk through the surface it is placed on.

Any ideas?

I'm refinishing my floors and some companies put on 3 coats. This one company said 2 was fine since I'm selling the house. I also save about $400 too.
