My husband and I just bought a new house and are in a dispute over the decor. Should The hall match the Living room or the Bathroom? Both open to a long hall which leads to the front door. I know it sounds petty but it's a long hallway and it 's the first thing people see. What do you think?Any tips or advice would be helpfull.

Without knowing the exact layout of the house, this is tough to answer. The bottom line though, is that the hall should be a way of pulling things together. Of course, you can always close doors to something like a bathroom so that it's not an issue. Then, when company comes over, they just see the living room and the hall. They then go down the hall to the bathroom and open the door to a whole new world.

My vote would be match it more closely to the living room.

We matched the hallway to the livining room in the sense that it is the same color and has the same picture frames in it. It only opens into the living room. Granted the bathroom is a terrible 70s wallpaper that still needs to come down. So we wouldn't match anything in the hallway to that.

I guess though, you could go either way, I guess it depends on what you decorate your bath with. I think seashells or something like that may look off in the hallway.

I think I would match it to the living room. When you are in the living room and look down the hallway, you will see a continuation of the color. It will give a more unified look.

I would think you would leave the bathroom door closed part of the time, at least, so this room could complement the other paint colors in your home. For instance, you could use a hue from the same palette for the bathroom, either darker or lighter than your living room/hallway color. It would be lovely. Most paint chips have five colors in the palette, ranging from lightest to darkest.

Definately the Living Room!! Wouldn't you have to have the bathroom door open to see the color in there? Therefore, when the door is closed, it might not make any sense on your color choice:) Good Luck!!

I would match all three - living room, hall, bathroom - with the same overall color; then, you could accent each area with a different color.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO MATCH IT. I THINK ALL ROOMS INCLUDING A HALLWAY SHOULD HAVE IT'S OWN STYLE. EVERY ROOM IN MY HOME IS NOT THE SAME COLOR. AND THAT MAKES IT ALL UNIQUE.
