I fry less and less these days, yet this film seems to get worse. Are we just getting more picky about cleanliness? I find food smells in the house revolting now (bacon definitely out, though I love the taste), though in the past they were just a part of comforting home atmosphere.

I bought a pair of used Birkenstock sandles (online auction)and the foot area is black. Before I throw them away, I thought I would ask if anyone knows a good cleaning agent to use on these sandles.. The straps are leather, don't know what the foot pad is, but below it is cork and then rubber. These are expensive shoes, but I won't put my foot on them in this condition.

I've tried everything from stardrops, fairy liquid, all purpose cleaner, disinfectant, boiling water to even very minute amounts of bleach but I always end up with streaks. It's driving me mad so if anybody has any suggestions they would be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance xx

I don't wash the dishes, so this is probably a stupid question but, I opened the dishwasher while it was on, and all that came out was steam. Do dishwashers use steam to clean?

*I know i'm not going to get many answers, but i'm just curious

The other day I saw the women on "How Clean is Your House?" polishing brass using catsup.

Do you have any little-known household hint?

Most of these models are at least 25 years old. They have a sort of filmy grime that won't come off with just soap and water.

Just wanted to share a cleaning tip with you---about 3 years ago I started using newspaper (of all things) and Windex with vinegar to clean glass doors, windows, and mirrors. I have gotten many wonderful compliments, and this method leaves no streaks whatsoever!

What is your best cleaning tip?

Even though I vacuum before I mop I always have hair on the mop from my pets. When it dries I can pick some off but it still looks nasty and I end up buying a new mophead.
