Cleaning & Laundry - March 2007

My girlfriend and i just moved into a completely renovated condo complex that used to be apartments. We bought all new dressings for the bathroom and now our brand new towels are being bleached. The began having bleach spots before we even put them through the first wash cycle!

Then we noticed our clothes also coming out of the washer with bleach stains and we do not use bleach. We thought it might be the fabric softener but elimination of that hasn't worked. Is it a problem with our water system? Or is it a hair product we might use?

We've tried eliminating hair products, but have seen no response. We believe it has to do with our water. Does anyone out there have this problem as well? Please help we are going insane! And we can't use anymore of our new towels until this is resolved.

thank you!

If I put a cotton t-shirt in the dryer and set it on high for a while and then reduced it to low for the final 5 minutes (when it was still a little damp), then would the t-shirt shrink like it was dried on high for the entire time?????

I have so many clothes that need to be dry cleaned, but don't have the time or money to take them to the cleaners. Is there an easier way?

A friend suggested boiling water, amonia, and dishwashing liquid. Not sure if that is not good for the ring.

I washed and aired it outside for a few hours and then put it back in the house and plugged it in. The fan had quit working on it and we had been waiting for the repairs to arrive...it took forever. Had I known it would be sitting this long I would have cleaned it immediately, but by the time I realized the new fan would take a while to get to us, we were deep into winter and I didn't want to open it in the house and let the spores loose. I am assuming that the smell is from the mold. I washed it best I could, but I imagine there are crevices that are holding some nasty stuff yet.

I've heard that Windex stays around for hours after it is sprayed. I have a 6 month old and was wondering if it is safe to use around her? My instinct says that if it has a potential to be dangerous, don't use it. Maybe there is another way to clean my nasty windows??

I threw a load in last night after work at 9:30 and my little brother was putting his stuff in the dryer. Well, the little bastard never got his clothes out and has wet stuff on top of the dryer still waiting to go in. I don't get off today until 9:30 again and I'm wondering if my clothes will be ok.

I threw a cloth that had been used to apply polish to my car in with a load of washing and it has completely tainted that wash and now even the empty machine stinks of turps! Ive tried putting the machine on an empty 95 degree wash and still it stinks without any sign of the smell dying down.. how can i resolve this? as for the smelly clothes ive aired them and rewashed in a relatives machine to get the smell out but i cant obviously do this every time i need to do the laundry!

It goes for about 15 minutes, till it is preheated, then it starts beeping and the "preheated" light starts blinking, but the "auto self-clean" and "oven on" lights are not on anymore. HELP!!! I really need to get this taken care of this morning!
