Interesting that you should ask this question because just last week I cleaned mine and they look marvellous!!

First I vacuumed away all the dust on them .... that was one heck of an improvement already.

Then, in a spray bottle, I mixed some Oxy-Clean powder with lukewarm water and sprayed it evenly all over the lamp shade which I had placed into the bath tub. The dirt seemed to melt away before my eyes.

After letting it soak for 10 minutes, using the shower head, I simply sprayed the entire lamp shade with cold water to rinse it until the water ran clear.

I try to never use brushes or sponges on fabric for fear of roughing up the fabric and then it just doesn't look the same anymore.

I then let the lamp shade air dry and it now looks like new!

Good luck ~ I hope this BRIGHTENS your day or at least your lamp shades! ; )

Use suds on a soft brush to rub any spots lightly. Then dip the shade up and down. When the water gets dirty, change to clean sudsy water. Wash the shade a second time. to rinse the shade, dip it up and down through two or three changes of clean water. Don't worry if the cloth stretches and sags while it is wet. It will tighten up for a snug fit when it gets dry.
To dry a fabric shade, tie a string to the middle of the frame. Then hang it over the bathtub or hang it from a clothesline outdoors to drip dry. Or you can wipe the shade with a bath towel until it is almost dry. Then put it back on the lamp and turn on the light so the heat from the bulb will help it to finish drying. If the lampshade has ruffles, "press" them with your finger

Ahhhh, just use a clean soft paintbrush and brush downwards gently this will take off the dirt and dust quite effectively, it does for me, never have to use any cleaners and my lamp shades look like new. Good Luck !

First vacuum well. Then there are dry cleaning sponges used by restoration people after a fire. You can often find these at janitorial shops. You wipe the shades with these........carefully. I've even used the dry erasers you could get at drafting supply stores, but so many people are computer designing, I'm having trouble finding those.
