I consider myself a minimalist and anti-materialist. I don't have pictures on my wall. My kitchen counters are spotless and only contain those items which I use daily. My bathroom is the same way - no vases containing fake flowers or bowls filled with potpouri.

I have very few decorations in my home aside from healthy plants (I throw them away if they are sickly), some vases which I fill with fresh cut flowers from my own yard, and a bowl of colorful fruit. I have minimal furniture - I'd rather have a few very high quality items instead of a lot of crap.

But I have heard that some people consider minimalists lazy and I'm not sure why. I just feel more peaceful with fewer things.

I had some remodeling done in my bathroom. The workers installed a new electrical outlet. A friend of mine who used to work in construction says that the outlet is required to have a reset button because it is in a bathroom. Is this correct? There is no reset button on the new outlet. Can the construction company be fined for not working to code?

Hi, about a year and a half ago I recieved a Calandiva plant as a gift. At that point, it had blooms which eventually died. Once they were gone, the leaves died off and new growth began. The new growth has been noticably vine like. However, even though the new "vines" looked hearty however very sparse, I then noticed that the soil had a whitish appearance, and that some of the older leaves had some white spots on them. I went to clear out some old foliage that was laying in the pot, and the just by a slight touch the new growth just fell off. Two big long growths that were bright and green detached and fell off. I don't know if they were growing too heavy for itself or what. I'm desperately looking for some help with this plant. If anyone has any advice for me, it would be appreciated. By the way, I usually keep it on the dry side, as per the plants indicated instructions.

Thank you in advance.

I have to open the top and pull the grey stem up to flush it. What is this part called and what will I need and have to do to fix my toilet??

If anyone is a member or you know some one who has dealings with them …..can you please tell me your experience …going to replace my kitchen cabinets soon ….and I know this can be a costly task…so I want to get the best deals possible…thanks for your replies…

Finishing my basement. Sewer pipe to city is 3 1/2 feet above floor. I have a sump pump well which runs year around due to "natural spring" under foundation. I want to install Shower, 2 sinks and towlet for bath and ult./laundry room

What system would be recommended to be "BEST" for this application, and any layout idea's, costs expectations, above the up-flush tank and plummer/electrication would be greatly appriciated.

I have some very old roughsawn lumber. I would like to use it for making furniture including some that could be exposed to water such as coffee tables. I don't want to sand the boards because the natural aged surface coloring and the saw marks are what give the boards their character.
I want to put a clear coat on the boards. I did a test on one board with polyurethane varnish and it soaked into the wood like water into a sponge. Even after several coats it still soaks in rather than covering the surface.
What can I use to finish this wood? Please help. Thanks!

Do you burn wood or the fire logs that last like 3 hours? I have always used wood but today I used one of those logs and it worked great.

I have an acrylic, one piece shower/tub. The floor of the tub is "soft" in one area - ie, it has flex and is apparently not properly supported. I am concerned that, over time, we will crack the fiberglass because of the flexing.

I have spoken to a bathtub repair firm which says there is some kind of spray in foam which hardens to a cement-like hardness and can be injected in underneath the tub to provide proper support but they have not indicated what this is. Can you please advise what products can be used and refer me to any sites which discuss and sell such products ?

thanks

It was washed and dried once, since the stain did not appear wet but ended up showing up when it was dried.

It was juice from the Thanksgiving turkey that stained it. What can I do to hopefully remove the stain? Will Shout do it?

i recently found some black lacquer furniture, at a consignment shop, i knew it had been so hard to find these days as it was discontinued some years ago, my mother use to have a intire bedroom set long ago, but she sold it, i was so anxious to fine some and by luck i did, the two pieces were in mint condtion, and i was able to bid down the two pieces for only 50.00 a piece, now i need some advice on how to decorate my bedroom with them, as the lady told me i have to be careful about how i decorate with them, so can some one tell me can i go with floral colors, maybe some deep burgundy, greens, golds lil bit asian, rot iron bed , some one plz give some good examples, the lady that sold them to me say stay away from creams and solid whites and black, she said the two tables are enough black, to use in ur bedroom, i plan to use for tv table for my tv. all opinions excepted male are female input. thanks.
