If this is a trig question, then you have to identify which sides and angles are referred to. We can guess it's not the hypotenuse, but if it's the length or height that makes a difference. Is it an adjacent or opposite angle?

Aaron A knows his trig! I come up with the same answer. The law of sines will perhaps help you to draw your own pic. and verify the answer.

your rafter would be 6.71' to the seat in the birds mouth then the total length would depend on depth of the soffet.

use a drafting ruler 1/4 scale if it is 5'6'' up width is what ever measure in between you don't give enough info
