I like febreeze the best, it works better than glade in my opinion. We use the scent spring and renewal. My sister in-law is a smoker and she borrows my Fresh Air purifier every once in a while to run in her car for about an hour to get the smoke smell out. That works like a charm.
Good Luck!

Oust tops them all!!! I like the garden scent the best. Oust truly eliminates odors.
As far as getting rid of the smoke smell. I suggest febreezing everthing (including her stuff...sofa, carpen, curtains, etc...) Then open all the windows and let it air out for a day.She may want to stay overnight at a friends house for this!
If she does't wan to that then boil vinegar. I know vinegar stinks to, but at leas that smell goes away on it own. Then she can shake baking powder on the carpets and vacuum it up

Have your friend wash everything (walls, floors, blinds, fixtures) with vinegar and water. Set a few small bowls of vinegar around the apartment. The vinegar gets rid of the smoke smell.
I like the smell of Febreeze.

Sprays aren't going to work for your friend. The stench is on the walls, ceiling and ground into the carpet. Wash the walls and ceiling, wash everything actually including inside the cabinets. Painting will cover the stench.....but I'd go one step further and use Kilz as an undercoat. Yeah, I know it's an apartment............
Shampoo the carpet......several times??
Do whatever you can to CLEAN the apartment, not cover it up with scents.........when the scents whereout, the stench returns.

i could try baking soda on the carpets and furniture. clean everything! get rid of old curtians. you may even had to pull up the carpet to get rid of cigarette smell. oust, febreeze, etc isn't going to cut it.

febreeze
Glade is a cover up, and only adds to the smell.
