Do you burn wood or the fire logs that last like 3 hours? I have always used wood but today I used one of those logs and it worked great.

Well you can use either ,both of them are affective but I think you should use whatever you think heats the room best.

Home fires are generally terrible for the environment. They waste home energy and return various harmful particulates to the atmosphere.
I have one burning across the room right now. I just can't resist. I love them so much.
Wood is best. Especially if you can get local wood. The energy associated with manufacturing, packaging, shipping etc. increases the energy costs of packaged fire logs many times.

Multi-purpose Fire place:
I burn both depending on the lest expensive at the time.
And while I'm at it, I'll burn junk mail, newspapers, and any papers that people normally would shred to protect their personal identity. Then all the ashes go into my veggie garden.

logs lodge pool, dug fur, split them the smaller the log the faster it will burn more heat bigger or thicker the log consistent heat last long different wood burns at different temps.

I burn starter logs and my husband gets free kiln dried lumber free from work... It's great !
