Put everything you own but don't actually use in boxes. Put the boxes in the basement or garage. Leave the boxes alone for at least 6 months. After that long you will forget what's even in the boxes, and you must not open them ever again, and throw the boxes away or have a thrift store take them away.
I know what you're going through, I used to be the same way. But once i put everything in boxes and forgot what the stuff was, and saw how much neater the whole house was, it was a lot easier to get rid of it all.

Well, start slow and tackle a couple areas at a time..... For instance your closet.. Take out everything... SORT into piles... TOSS, DONATE, KEEP, SELL get some bins/boxes etc... It's also good to have some friends help you... If it doesn't fit or is out of style clothing DONATE.. If it's in ill repair/torn/ripped TOSS. If it fits and you love it then KEEP. If it's sentimental things from you past/childhood... Get a sturdy box or storage bin that fits nicely in your closet w/o taking up a ton of room... If the mementos are pictures.. Maybe it would be a good idea to scan and burn them to a picture CD.. A picture cd will hold approximately 100 pictures.. Then you could part with the original pictures or give them to friends/family. If there are ribbons/memorilbilla then only keep the items that are truly treasured.. If the items are big like trophys/medals then perhaps you could take a digital picture of each trophy/medal and save it to computer/cd/dvd.... This would GREATLY reduce clutter.... Paperwork/artwork etc.. can also be scanned and saved to CD/DVD.... If you simply must keep artwork then get an artist portfolio and organize it properly.... CD's/DVD's/VHS are good to burn to DVD/CD and get rid of lesser listened to music or burn onto ipod/computer.... If you simply can't part with them but, they take up much needed space..INVEST in some CASE LOGIC's they hold the cd's/DVD's about 200 per book.. They can be stored in a bookcase and not take up as much space as CD/DVD cases.. Also, the lifespan of a VHS movie is about 15 yrs. before they start to lose quality so getting rid of movies you may not watch is a great idea.. Sell your used cd's, DVD's/VHS to Record Exchange/Exchange or Half Priced Books.....
Also, you can store items under your bed in convient underbed storage containers.. Things like out of season clothing, purses and bed linens... That will also save space....
Letting items go is very important.. Especially, if you plan on moving away from home... Think of things that you would like to take... Things that you would get rid of/leave behind... Then you can treat yourself to a nice clean and organized space... Good luck...
*my friend has a room it's about 15x`13 and she's a PACK-RAT.... We went through her one double closet and 2 dressers and DONATED about 6 30 gallon contractor bags of clothing... TOSSED 6- 30 gallon bags of TRASH and SOLD about 6 small boxes of books, 3 boxes of VHS/DVD movies to make about $500.... This was in a one month period ! So, it can be done !

Make him watch Sanford&Son till he won't be in a position to stand it. and start up donating, backyard revenues, perhaps you will get a new child interior the nieghborhood to paintings for a number of it and help you do away with a number of it. tell him he can sell it for you and split the money with him. determine your husband is in on it, regardless of each and every thing you mairried him.
