Here's one for all of you with electrial expertise. The camper is a 1989 Coleman Columbia. Hubby thinks he can plug the camper power cord to an extension cord, cut the opposite end off of the extension and connect the wires to the AC plug fitting for the generator. I said since there's no way to convert the 220 volt source down to 120 volt, that this is not a wise or safe idea. He's insistent that his idea will work and I have visions of a burning camper. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

It is a 2 family house in Brooklyn, NY with oil heater. I am planning to rent both units out, but I don't want to be responsible for their heat and hot water because I cannot control how much the tenants use since I won't be living in it. Plus, I heard oil is much more expensive than gas. Also, I don't think you can meter their usage on oil. Therefore, I am planning to change the oil tank to gas so I can setup a meter for each family, so they can pay Keyspan themselves every month. I heard that converting to gas is very expensive. Could anyone provide me with some suggestions that is best for this situation? Thank you very much!

One of my fence posts has broken about 5 inches from the soil ground. This has caused the fence to break, leaving the fence on one side of the post standing intact, while the rest of the fence leans. I've considered bracing the post and connecting the two fences or pouring cement. Should I try to do a quick fix or replace most the of the fence?

the field years ago was all alfalfa. our neighbor's also. they built their house about five years before us, and they said all they did was keep mowing it regularly and eventually the grass just came up. their yard is beautiful. after about ten years now, our yard (about seven acres) looks nothing like theirs, except where we've gone out and actually planted grass. the rest has spots that look like perfect grass, and parts that from a distance are nice, but up close after mowing, just doesn't look like grass! how do I tell if it's grass and not hay or straw??

This is a really cool glacial rock in my yard that has a large groove down the center. We just cleared it out and thought it would be a great place for planting something. It is in a shady spot and we live in the northeast US.
My whole yard is very hilly and difficult to maintain, therefore, the more natural looking the better, however we are open to all ideas. There are several more huge outcrops of ledge like this one, but this one is prominent in the yard and has the most soil.
I put a chair on top of it in one of the pictures in case anyone needed a size perspective, but lost the pic during download, so see the rake I guess. Anyways it's pretty big.
Thanks to all in advance.

Is it OK to pour drano or similar products down the pvc drain lines of your a/c unit to keep them clean? Also is there any reason I should not install a "T" PVC joint where the drain lines come out of the unit so that I can do this w/out having to detach the drain lines to do maintenance?

I am thinking about pouring my own driveway, or at least prepping to do so. I was wondering how deep the driveway needs to be to hold up to a car? (Approximately 4 inches deep???)

In GENERAL, can you place recessed lighting in duct work? I have a very small hall with a light that sticks down from the ceiling and hits my boyfriends head (he is tall). The home was probably built around 1950. There is ductwork directly above it, but I think it's an air return, although it might be for the heat, too (just moved in and know nothing on hvac). The air conditioning comes in through floor vents. I want to know if it might be possible to have a recessed light. I just didn't want to reach an electrician or pay for one to come out to find out it's not even in the realm of a possibility. Thank you so much!

I accidently put a hole in my wall. The hole is not caved in, there is not just a big chunk missing, the part of the wall is still connected. But I do not know how to repair it myself. It is about the size of a baseball, perhaps slightly larger. Any help would be appreciated =)

We are new owners that moved in during summer of 06', and we noticed that there was a sort of dark, extremely glutinous sap near the bottom of the trunk of our apricot tree. This spring, the glutinous stuff was gone, but several branches are now devoid of leaves, even though they were fine during the spring. The fruit seems to be growing well.

Is the tree diseased? What should we do about it? Are there sprays available to treat this? Thanks!

When my sprinkler system comes on, there is a significant drop in my household water pressure. The drop is so great that you can't even flush the toilet. Also, my water bill is up 80 dollars - 1000 gallons from last June. Does this mean there is a leak in my system somewhere?

I would like to have a small decorative fence installed to separate our lot from our neighbors. we have neighbors on either side of us... i have kids and it's mostly for their protection...like i said, i'd like to have a more decorative fence, not just something like hurricane fencing installed, maybe about 4ft high. Since one of my neighbors went on and removed all the shrubs separating the lots and replaced them with rose bushes it kinda ruined the natural border...i had intended to replant the bushes but without a fence i'm afraid they'll complain about the bushes up against the roses....we're new to the neighborhood too....so should i ask them if it's ok, i don't want any financial input on their behalf, just a little separation....what u think???

If the point of having a lamp is to put light in a room, why would you shade the light? If it's too bright, how about a lower wattage bulb?
