If it is a stainless steal blade it won't rust. If it is some other metal then wash it with water and dry it then rub a light oil on the blade to keep the air off it. It won't rust if it is oiled.

You can wash a knife in soapy water then dry it off. They corrode if water is left on and has time to combine with the carbon in the steel. If it is dried, it should not rust. If it is kept in a leather scabbard, it could rust from the moisture the leather attracts.
A light coating of oil, mineral oil, WD 40, or even cooking oil will help keep air and moisture from combining with the carbon. put a drop on, then wipe off. I've heard of some rubbing wax on the blade to help preserve it as well. You can use paraffin, beeswax, or automotive polish wax, as long as you buff off the excess.

They won't rust if they are stainless steel. Look on the blade for the ID. If it is not S.S. then dry the knife after cleaning. If rust does appear, then use some 4/0 steel wool to remove.
