I can't seem to make my towels come out of the laundry smelling good. I try washing them in hot water, I try different detergents, I try using fabric softener, I try drying them extra well... they always come out smelling weird, and the gross smell gets worse when they get damp again. They aren't super old... any suggestions?

Me and my friend are moving into a new apartment and we want the place to look nice but we also don't want to have to spend too much money. We're both in our mid-twenties and we want the place to look nice but not girly. Any ideas you have would help. Thanks.

We had an HVAC tech measure the amount of freon in our heat pump today. When he attached the meter hoses he let the freon bleed off for about 3-5 seconds. When I asked him how much freon I just lost he said it was 'negligible'. Is he being truthful or did he botch the job? The heat pump we have holds 10lbs of freon. He measured around 2 pounds and said we have a leak. Is this B.S.?

There is a humming or buzzing sound coming from the inside of the garage door opener unit, whether it's operating or not. The only way I can get rid of it, is to unplug the power cord. Plug it again 30 or so minutes later, there's no sound. Come back 15 to 30 minutes later and the sound is back. Insight anybody??

I bought powder detergent and have noticed lately my black clothes come out with detergent still on them.
Of course I use very little.. (never do the the MFG suggest... Of course they want you to use 1 cup to have to buy more and more!) I add the detergent then let the water fill then put my clothes in... Do you think there is a problem with my washer? Or the USER? Or the powder laundry soap??

It's worked fine the past couple of times I tried it. .It's basically a pipe that sticks up out of the ground with a spigot on the end that you have to pull all the way up to turn it on. So I was watering the plants today and pulled the handle all the way up. I got one watering can of water and then the water stopped flowing. I don't get it. The water inside the house works just fine. It's just the outside faucet that stopped working.

Any thoughts?

My husband is a pretty handy guy and we have a very tight budget. He doesn't like the above ground portable hot tubs, and I'm wondering if it would be possible for us to build our own in-ground hot tub? I live in Houston, TX, where the ground moves quite a bit. Gunite pools are popular here. Would this be a manageable thing for us? Any tips/suggestions? Any idea on the cost?

When I bought my house, the previous owner left about 30 cans of paint there, most are at least 1/2 full. I have a feeling that it is going to be expensive to get rid of it. Does anyone have an idea for getting rid of the cans in a cheaper (though legal) way?

My wife and I are in the process of shopping for our first house. We found one that is almost perfect for us, but I'm a little worried about the furnace. It's pretty old, but looks very well maintained. The type of heat is listed as "hydronic" which means the furnace supplies the multiple radiators around the house. I have no experience with this type of furnace. Any information about them would be appreciated.

I just had central AC installed. The weather has been nice and I haven't had a need for either the heat or the air, but 6 days after the AC was installed, I had to turn on the heat, which didn't work!! Now, the contractor, who was hired by one of the bigger chains, says that it isn't their fault, that my furnace was old anyway. Even though the sales guy that quoted me, told me he'd get the windows replaced before the furnace because the furnace worked just fine. Not to mention my doorbell doesn't work after they rewired everything. It just ticks me off that he is trying to pin this on the furnace and can't just say, yeah, we may have made a mistake. So, whats the likelihood of the furnace actually breaking at the exact time of installation of the AC? Because it worked just fine prior. Am I being unfair in placing blame on these guys or does something not sound right?

Thanks!
