As a profesional mole trapper for 5 years I can tell you this
The only way to control moles is by trapping them out
there is no poison you can buy that will kill them-NONE!
If you are in the states go to SOSMoletrapper.com to see the type of traps we use-they are sold in kit form with a vidio which shows exactly how to set the traps
Its not easy but it is your only answer!
Good Luck!

Here's the recommendation from Cornell University Cooperative Extension.
I've heard that moles are usually a sign that you could have a problem with grubs (beetle larva), and treating your lawn for grubs will send the moles looking elsewhere for food. The article however, says that this is no longer the accepted reasoning. We have a cat.

I have found traps to be the only truly effective way to get rid of them. My cat has also become proficient at killing them but it does depend on your cat.
It has also been suggested laying wire mesh under your lawn, if you were putting in a new lawn I would see it as an option, but I thought taking out my lawn and redoing it was a bit much.

The best way I know of is to get a small dog that is a natural hunter and digger, like a dachshund. They were originally bred for badger hunting, and they can get down into those holes in the ground and pull out animals twice their size. Once you show a dog like that a mole trail in a yard, they are usually all over it and don't give up until they catch it. This has worked for me more than once. One time when I was dogless, I borrowed my mom's dog for this task.
It will tear up your yard, of course, but if you already have moles tearing it up it's worth it to get rid of them for good. Once you know they're all gone, you can fix the yard.

I have gone so far as to set off loud “bombs”-high powered potato gun, right into each hole. My intention was to give them concussions. They thrived on the attention.

Don't worry about moles. They are cleaning up grubs. Moles won't eat your plants, but grubs will. Always hand pick japanese beetles and drop into a can of soapy water, so they will breed less and fewer grubs will hatch. If you see a mole trail, just push it back into place with your foot.

put a bottle into the earth so that the neck is sticking up. The noise when the breeze blows drives them crazy and they'll end up moving away...
