We just painted our house white (very white) with a black roof. The problem is the windows are a light beige. What color do we do all trim, gutters and colums on the house. If we do white, the windows will be the only thing that is beige. Would beige windows and trim look bad with such a white house?

My toilet is running and I think I need a flapper. I've heard it's easy to do-it-yourself but I never have. Can you give me step by step directions on how to do this? Also, do I need to look for a certain type of flapper or are they all the same? How much do they cost?

I am remodeling my kitchen and it has an industrial tile on the floor now (similiar to school flooring). I would like to put ceramic tile in its place. is it okay to lay the ceramic right over top if the floor is in good condition? or do i have to remove the laminate before placing the ceramic?

We bought a house 2 years ago and much to my delight there are about 100 amaryllis' in the front flower bed. They seem to be pretty thick though, is there a proper way to thin them out maybe transplant some to the back yard or give as gifts? I had no idea that there were such a "hot garden item" until a neighbor came by frantic b/c i was removing weeds and she thought i was pulling up the amaryllis... Also, is there a "seed" that I could take from the existing plants to cultivate new ones?? Thanks

I'm now living in a small 2 bdrm apt but I have a lot of furniture (just came from a 3 bdrm house) and I have already gotten rid of the things I don't want.. but things seemed cramped. Does anyone out there have any tips or ideas on how to minimize clutter, and make things more spacious?

Thanks,

I bought a townhouse a few months back and switched out all the outlets and switches. I have 3 switches that don't seem to turn anything on. I plugged a light into each top/bottom outlet and turn the switch on and off, but nothing. I am thinking that I didn't break off one of the tabs on the side but don't know which one I should break off which outlet. Can I choose which outlet is controlled by the switch? How do I know which tab to break off? Really annoying having switches that don't power anything. HELP !!!

I am a first time gardener, and I'm really excited about starting my first real garden. I have a small (20x40 feet approx.) piece of land to cultivate, but I've never even used a tiller. I'm hoping someone can take me step-by-step as to what I need to do, from tilling to harvest. It's a big question, but I would really appreciate some good advice from an experienced gardener! I plan to grow mostly vegetables like onions, cucumbers, peppers, and some tomatoes and watermelons. Thank you in advance to all who answer! I'm on Spring Break, and I hope to get everything in order this week. Have a great one!

The tree will be two years old this year. About 1/2 the way up the trunk, below the branches which have always been there, I am seeing "green shoots" appearing. If left, do these become lower branches, or should they be removed?

I used a mini, heated greenhouse with spaghnum moss pellets to germinate my seeds. After a few days, I took off the dome and found they had sprouted, but look more like Cress ! There are long (over 4"), thin, whispy stands with a little bud on each end. In the instructions, it says to wait until you have 2-4 leaves, then transplant outdoors when the weather is warm enough. I've left the dome off and put them by the window for sunlight, but don't know if it's worth planting them, as they look sick. Can I cut them down in size and hope the stems thicken, then wait for leaves ? Thanks for any advice.

Most of the models are 33" or 34". Does anyone know of models that would work for this space? I don't think I can use a portable dishwasher because I don't have separate hot and cold faucets. I have the lever type that can turn to hot or cold. Help, please! Thanks.

...Do I disassemble these from the line of the cleaner? All I have to replace is the housing of the back-up valve; Is there an online manual or instructions somewhere? It seems locked, but it looks like a twist off in the pics...

Can you help?

I have a small, brick bungalow in Denver. The brick is already painted, and I hate the color. So I want to repaint it. I'm wondering if that's a job one can do by themselves, or something that is better left to a professional? I've painted nearly every other room inside the house satisfactorily. Thanks.

Alright, I'm on my own right now since my husband is in Iraq and I have been trying to get the screens off the windows and I can't!!! How the h*ll do you get screens out of windows? I can unlock them and part-way take them out but then the edge of the window gets in the way of me taking it all the way off the window. I need about a milimeter more space to slide it all the way out. Is there a certain technique to gets these things out? I've never had to do it on my own before. I hope I explained this in a way people can understand and someone can help me out here. I feel like it is a simple thing that I am just making way more difficult than it actually is....

I recently inherited some neat t-shirts but they are all a size or two too big for me but they are also made out of 100% cotton. Can I shrink them in the wash by washing them in hot water and then drying them on high? Or is there a better way?
