I have a small, brick bungalow in Denver. The brick is already painted, and I hate the color. So I want to repaint it. I'm wondering if that's a job one can do by themselves, or something that is better left to a professional? I've painted nearly every other room inside the house satisfactorily. Thanks.

I painted my mother's two story by myself and it came ouy great. Easier than painting inside because less worry about corners and no ceilings. Maybe you can recruit some friends or neighborhood kids to help. I found someone to help me with the very high parts for a pizza and some beer. Course, don't drink when you have to get up on a ladder.

Personally I would do it myself. In fact my husband and I did paint this house some years ago when my mother in law was still alive and living in it. The house is in Spain and it was September so it was pretty hot work. We are planning on doing it again soon but this time we will hire and airless spray gun. We used one on a house we renovated last year and it was fantastic, we had the whole house painted in a matter of hours.

However, DIY and renovations are what we do. We love it and do a lot of that type of work. If you have any doubts you would do well to at least speak to a professional. Get a price and decide if you feel it's a worth while expense. If you do the job badly you may end up hating it even more and either paying to have it done professionally again anyway or living with the mistake for a very long time.

I like painting my self and I do my interior and exterior, why pay someone for something I can do. But, before you paint, ask at Lowes, Home Depot or someplace like that if you need to clean teh brick first. Have fun.

If you have the time and want to then why not?

You might want to get one of those airless sprayers. It would help speed the job up a little, but it would cost you a little more in overspray too.
