The warm weather is right around the corner (it's actually already in the 80's here in GA) and I do not want to turn the air conditioning on yet because we still have winter gas bills for another month. What are some things that can be done around the house to help cut down on electricity usage? Any tips and advice to help cut down the bills would be great!

I found this "sludge" around the base of a new tree in my yard. It surrounded the trunk like a donut, about 1 1/2 -2 inches high and about 1 inch thick. Thick and jello like in substance. Very gross. Any clues as to what it is and how to treat it. I really want to save the tree.

We have an expensive king size pillowtop mattress. Simmons Beauty Rest. It is only 7 yrs. old and has indentations where we sleep. It is very uncomfortable since these "holes" make it impossible to turn over in your sleep and there is a high spot in the center of the bed. We are trying to figure out what to do. We have 2 other mattresses in our guest rooms that are very old and do not have pillowtopsthey are still quite comfortable to sleep on. I think that the pillowtop "feature" is the problem, but it is very difficult to find a non-pillowtop mattress. We do not want a memory foam one either. Which companies make a regular mattress.

I forgot what it is called. My husband always seems to mulch the roses too much, covering even the first few branches. I suspect that it is bad for them and they need to "breathe" a bit. What is the right way to do it?

I want to buy a rain coat from Aquascutum or Burberry in cream. However I know it will get dirty quickly being a pale colour and am apprehensive to pay so much for one to have to get it dry cleaned over and over. If you hand wash it do they shrink or run or is it just it ruins the 'waterproofing' effect on the jacket...........?? Please send me your advice, no silly answers thanks!

I`m planting 3 diffrent types of potatoes in the garden this year, Pontiac Reds, Yukon Golds and Swedish Fingerling, and live in zone 3. Do I have to plant them on Good Friday or is that just an old wives tale?

I have two microsuede couches, just your everyday Ashley Furniture set. They did come with various cleaning products, including a small bottle of microsuede cleaner and a microsuede sponge. However, I have now had them for two years, and it seems like they are ready for a more "deep" cleaning, above and beyond using the microsuede cleaner and other "spot" fixes. I'm talking something that might take all day and soak them. Is there a product I can use to safely shampoo or deep clean them, even if it is a service that I have to pay for?

I need some lights to start vegetable plants, and also to grow Orchids indoors. I have tried Florescent, but I cannot get grow bulbs in 8' lengths. Would Metal Halide be the best choice? Also is there any danger of the metal halide bulbs exploding after they get old? What about high pressure metal halide, are these better than regular metal halide?
